How far are the ruins from Cozumel?

Is it a doable activity?

I left this for others to answer as I havent doen it, however I know it is possible as the Island is quite small, Taxis run form the end of the pier, so yes doable.

I have done the Dolphins trip at Coz and on the second visit Tulum on the mainland.

Do you mean Tulum or ruins on the island of Cozumel? Tulum is a 45 minutes ferry ride to the mainland, then about a 45 minute bus ride south to Tulum. We were thinking of doing the excursion on our own, but with the possibility of getting back late and missing the ship (AND leaving our DD3 and DD5 in the care of my MIL!!!!,) we decided to do the ship's excursion. We left the ship as soon as we landed (around 9:30) and got back to the ship at 5:20. We left the port at 6:30.

we did Tulum on the 7 day western.... This was after Key west, day at sea, and stingrays at cayman.

I will remember the experience for years!!! My son was 9 and daughter 11. I was concerned it would be too hot and boring. We prepared. Brought lots of water and hats to cover from sun.

Day was perfect -- clear but very very light soft clouds so not 'blazing sun'.

our guide was AWESOME. Our kids loved EVERY minute. They asked great questions. loved the lizards... and even swam in the crystal clear ocean at the end.

If you want an experience that is 'real' (Tulum is over 1,500 years old.. nothing like it in the U.S.) and appreciate history and beauty.... then this is it. It was WONDERFUL!.. (or.. rather.. 'Magical"... since we were on the magic).

I do say .. phew.. pirate party that night.. gosh.. sooooo tired... but so fun.

DO IT!

I agree -- we were exhausted and so was our DD3. She didn't go on the excursion, but she stayed in Oceaneer's Club while we were gone all day and she was totally beat. Here she is at the pirate party:

Tulum was really wonderful!!!!!!! And fortunately, a friend who decided not to leave the ship agreed to hold our beeper in case DD needed something.

:cheer2: We went to the Mayan Ruins (Tulum) on a November 2002 cruise on Celebrity (before we discovered Disney Cruise) and we loved it! I remember a bumpy boat ride to Playa Del Carmen and a long van ride (possibly 1-1/2 hours), but it was worth it. I was about 8 weeks pregnant when we went and our friend who ended up being our daughter's godmother affectionately nicknamed our daughter "Tulum"! We even had enough time to go to Senor Frogs in Playa Del Carmen and eat and we had time to hang out on the beautiful beach before heading back to the ship. I am really glad we did it.....you will be too!:cheer2:
