I was looking at the map on this site to see where the various parks are in relation to each other and there is no scale on the map so I don't know how far one park is from the next. On the map, it looks like you can walk across the street from the AKL and be at Blizzard Beach. Is it that close? Is there some where that lists how far the parks are from one another? How far, driving distance in miles, is it from AKL to MK, Epcot, etc?

Cool, I just noticed that I am a 'mouseketeer' and not 'earning my ears'!!! Just one of those Disney milestones

Things are much further apart than they appear on those maps. The entire property is 49 square miles. Thats twice the size of manhattan, or the size of the entire city of San Fransisco. Very little locations are within walking distance to anything. Walking is also not recommend as many of the roads are very busy, and most do not have sidewalks. You would not want to walk to anything from AKL. Even to AK it would be a very long walk. I know there is somewhere with a chart listing the distace between locations. I am trying to find it for you.

AKL and Blizzard Beach (and the All-Stars for the record) are relatively close to one another, but not walking distance close. When driving or using Disney transportation, everything is a pretty easy/fast to get to.

I am sure we will use Disney transportation as much as possible, but while looking at the maps I was thinking that since BB was so close to our resort, we could run over there for a couple hours on a break from the parks, but since it isn't as close as it looks, that won't happen. We will have a rental car, too, but I think for the MK, Epcot, we will use the bus system. We will have to hop on the monorail at least once for the kids, though.

Here is a chart from this site
Driving Distances

I don't know how accurate it is but it might give you an idea. The chart pre-dates AKL however you can pretty much just substitute AK for the Lodge and get an idea.

We were there last month and had a rental car. My husband feels that it is much quicker to go anywhere in the car rather than wait in line for the buses. Especially if you go during a busy time of the year. Just our opinion, but, as long as you are paying for the car, you should take advantage of it.

It is quicker to drive unless you are going to MK. Their you will need to also take a Tram and Monorail if you drive. Also if you go to the parks late your better off taking the bus, as you will hev to park at the further ends of the parking lots, making for longer walks and or tram rides. I usually prefer to take the buses however, because I am not in a hurry and enjoy the complete Disney experience. Afterall this is why you stay at a Disney resort. You want the complete Disney experience.

Even if a distance is close enough for walking, I read somewhere that WDW streets are not safe for pedestrians---no sidewalks.

Walt Disney World covers 43 square miles. The closest 2 parks are Epcot and Disney MGM, which are separated by water, or basically just across Buena Vista Blvd from each other. The furtherest out is Animal Kingdom. From DTD, it is about a 10 -15 minute drive, if you catch all of the lights, and know the short cuts. There are basically 2 main roads in WDW, and from them, you can get anywhere you need to go. They are World Drive, which starts at 192 and ends up by the Magic Kingdom. From here are exits for all parks and resorts. The other is the aforementioned Buena Vista Blvd. This runs from rt 535 past DTD, and ends at the All Star Resorts. From here you can directly reach DTD, Typhoon Lagoon, Carribean Beach Resort, Boardwalk Resort, Swan and Dolphin, Disney MGM Studios, Fantasia Miniature Golf, Coronado Springs Resort, Blizzard Beach, Winter/Summerland Miniature Golf and the All Star Resorts. It also intersects roads leading to Epcot, Old Key West, Port Orleans Resorts, Pop Century, Wide World of Disney Sports Complex, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Stop by Guest Relations, if you aren't staying onsite to get a map, or if you are staying in the Disney owned resorts, there will be a pamphlet that you will receive on check in and it has a fold out copy of the map. It looks confusing, but usually castmembers at Guest Relations or the front desks can give you the most direct route to get you where you are going.

As for walking, you can safely walk from Epcot to Disney-MGM Studios, following the path along the water. You may also walk from Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club and Swan and Dolphin to either of these parks and Fantasia Miniature Golf. You may also walk from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom. You can walk between the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian, too. You can also walk between Blizzard Beach and Winter/Summerland Miniature Golf. It is kind of a long walk, but there is a pathway that connects DTD to Saratoga Springs, as well. Walking between other parks and resorts is highly discouraged due to the heavy volume of traffic and lack of sidewalks.

Have a great time!

Thanks for the info! It looks like it is about 4 blocks from AKL to BB but it is 3 miles according to that chart.

According to Yahoo Maps it is only alittle over 1.5 miles. I don't think the chart is entirely correct.
