How far a walk is MGM to YC?

We want to take advantage of walking to the parks from the YC and although I have walked to Epcot from there the path to MGM was not open yet when we last stayed at the BWI. Thanks for any info!

Hello Gretel

This last January I was staying at the BWI, and always walked when I went to MGM. I do walk at a pretty good clip, but it took 12 minutes from closing my room door to the turnstiles at MGM.

With the YC across the bridge, I'd add a few minutes more, then perhaps a bit more if you stroll (my wife's preference) instead of walk like you mean to get there.

Have fun.

...it FEELS a lot longer. Most of the walk is unshaded, and tedium sets in after the first five minutes. On a hot day, I wouldn't recommend it.

But you can't beat the convenience. When we stayed at the BW last fall, I made the trip a couple times. If you aren't in a hurry, and the heat isn't awful, it can be pleasant.

TIP: to shorten the trip a bit, cut through the BoardWalk pool area, just past the slide!

I've made that walk several times from the YC and i dont find it tedious at all. It takes about 16 minutes from lobby to turnstile. It is actually a very pleasant walk. I always enjoy waving to the people on the boats or sprites. Also there are frequently other walkers or joggers on the path to say hello to.

Its a great way to relax in relative peace before entering the madness of the crowds. I think you will enjoy it.

We routinely walk back from MGM to BW on the path if just getting out of a Fantasmic showing. It is cooler at night, and the line for the boat can be very long. From BW to MGM we will always take the boat as it probably takes as long to catch a boat and get there as it does to walk. If by taking advantage you mean you'd rather walk, then I guess it just comes down to personal preferences. That's the beauty at WDW, there's many ways to get from A to B.

DW and I have raced, her on the boat and me on foot. I not only beat her every time, I'm often halfway through a beer by the time she gets there. I make it in under 15 minutes, and I DON'T walk at a good clip by any stretch. I think the path is nice. Because few people know about it and those that don't usually prefer the air conditioning of the boat, I haven't seen more than ten people on a path trip from MGM to YC/BC (either way) during any given trip.

In January I asked the people at the info desk at MGM about walking to Epcot (roughly as far as YC). They looked at me like I was crazy. "Take the boat!" I assured them that we were refugees from a brutal winter and did not mind a stroll in the warm sunshine, and they just shook their heads, like no sane person would ever make that walk.

We did it, and it was over before we knew it. As a test, we rode the boat back and it was very tedious (mostly because of other stops along the way).

Walking is definitely the way to go!
