How expensive is the Trading Post?

We are thinking about shipping down some nonparishables so that they are there when we arrive. But I will need to pick up milk, bread and some meats. I was wondering how outrageously expensive it is to pick these things up at FW instead of dragging the kids to a grocery store before we arrive at WDW. Do they have a fairly good selection of things?

Thanks!

Pam

The meadows trading post has a small grocery section for emergency shopping. While the prices are not totally outrageous, they are higher than local supermarkets. If possible I would suggest stopping at a local store (my favorite is the Florida chain Publix Supermarkets) on your way in. Then if necessary stop again if you make any side trips off Disney property. There are many other stores in the local area including.

Milk and bread are always there. I can't remember seeing meats other than pre-packaged cold cuts.

The closest Publix I have found is Publix Regency Village Shopping Center (Store #00812)

Driving Directions:

Exit the Disney complex on Hotel Plaza Blvd (Lake Buena Vista) to 535, turning right on 535.

Drive under I-4, turning left at the first light after you cross under I-4. This should be Vineland Ave.

Continue on Vineland Ave, pass the outlet stores (nice center) and follow the signs to Publix.

This is about 5 minutes further than the closest grocery store which is Goodings, but you save money!

Current Publix Store Hours:

Sun 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Mon 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Tues 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Wed 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Thurs 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Fri 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Sat 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Thanks for the info, Tim! We will probably just make a grocery stop after all, since the Trading Post doesn't have meat.

We found the trading post very pricey, more so than other campground. I think I paid over $3 for a 2liter bottle of soda. Try to shop off propery if possible even if just at a convenience store.

Milk is about $2.50 per half gallon...if I remember right. I would suggest getting your groceries off of Disney property.

FYI...for those of you considering buying beer or wine coolers at Crockett's Tavern, here's a suggestion. Either bring your own or buy from the Trading Post.

A small plastic cup of beer at the bar was about $4.50. A short walk over to the Trading Post and you can buy a can for $1.75 which fills 2 of their plastic cups.

Just my .02 worth...Here is what happened to me in February. Even though I didn't have a car, our shuttle told us it would give us a 1/2 grocery stop. Unfortunately, the driver was new, and didn't know that there is a store open 24-hours (our flight got in after midnight, and all but Goodings was closed.) Anyway, I ended up having to get stuff at the Trading Post. IF you have a car, it would definitely be worth a trip to a nearby grocery store. Or, if you don't have a car and your flight gets in at a decent hour, you can still get a grocery stop. Considering my predicament, it ended up being okay. Living in Alaska, I am used to a bit higher grocery prices, so they didn't shock me. I thought eggs (about $1.39 a dozen) and bread ($2.39 per loaf) was acceptable. I brought all our unperishables in a suitcase. I did notice that they had sliced luncheon meat and sliced cheese at the Trading Post. One plus to buying just what you need each day is that you won't throw food out if your plans change and you don't eat what you thought you would. Anyway, I agree that if it works out, by all means make a grocery stop. BUT...if anyone finds themselves like I did stuck with no alternative...it wasn't too bad, either! Happy camping!

The Trading Posts DO have frozen steaks and burgers that are very good and not too, too expensive, all things considered... I did notice that the "shrunk" a bit when we cooked them at the cabin... But dey was goooooood, yeah!

Thanks, I didn't know that! I will have to check it out...sounds good.
