How easy is it to upgrade my 4 day park hopper to an AP?

We will have 4 day park hoppers and want to upgrade to APs. Can someone tell me what this involves and how long it should take me to do it? We plan on arriving at the parks around noon on a Saturday--crazy I know! Is it possible to change them over later in the evening or does it have to be done during the daytime?

It has been a couple of years since I did this, but when we did, we took our hoppers to the ticket kiosks outside the main gate and paid there. They applied the exact discounted cash value of those tickets to annual passes. We were given tickets which we were to take into the park to the photo processing center, and we have our pictures taken there. It didn't matter what time we did the pictures, we could have done other things first, but at the time the photo place was right in the Town Square (it has since moved across from Carnation Plaza and Plaza Inn, but it may have moved again, you had better ask where it is this week.) There was practically no line, so we did it right away. I have been there a few times since and seen some very long lines for AP processing.

I recently asked about upgrading from a hopper pass to an AP and was told that is not a problem. Any upgrade can be done as long as the upgrade is more money! The price paid is on the ticket and they will total the difference. They can do upgrades on tickets purchased through an agent too. You can upgrade on a 4 day hopper pass, for example, on the fourth day BEFORE you exit the park. You can wait and decide, but if you plan ahead and know that you are definitely going for more than 4 days, get the AP because the discounts are great at Disneyland!! You can get a discount on purchases in the parks and on character meals (unlike WDW)!
