How early should I book?

I really want to stay at POR in April 2018, specifically in a Royal Guest Room.

When should I book it? Should I book now, and then edit the reservation when deals come out?

We are FL residents and AP holders, so I'm hoping a deal comes out, they are pretty expensive rooms!

We won't go without a discount so we always wait until they're released. If you're going to go with or without a discount and your dates are not flexible then I'd book now. Otherwise I'd hold off. Booking now will slightly diminish your chance on getting a discount as that's one less room they need to add to the discount because it's already rented at full price.

I agree! :thumbsup2

You can book now and apply the discount later but to be honest those Royal rooms never sell out.

I always book as soon as possible this way I have the room I want. You can always edit the reservation if a discount comes out.

If you want to take advantage of being able to book dining early, I'd book now. If you couldn't stay there without a discount, I'd pick somewhere else where you could stay if you don't get a discount and book now. This way you can take andvantage of being able to book dining early and if a discount becomes available later, you can switch your reservation. You can switch resorts/room types without losing your dining.

I tend to book trips when I know for sure we are going. This is usually 10-12 months out. I make a reservation at whichever resort (or resorts as we do split stays often) we can afford at the current rack rates. If a resort is likely to be full later when the discounts are available, I go ahead and book there and hope for the best. Sometimes I get lucky and other times I don't...when I don't, we have to decide if we want a very expensive room (sometimes it's worth it to stay a few nights at the CR at spring break just for the 7 AM EMH. I'd rather not stand out at a bus stop before sunrise somewhere else LOL) or if we would be better off switching over to Pop Century.

I say book it. I have almost always gotten a discount even though I book early. I am ready to pay full price to be where I want to be when I want to be there - so I book and then look for a discount.

I do not subscribe to the "fewer discounts if too many things are already booked" theory. Last year I got an AP discount at The Contemporary in the tower facing the theme park for the week before Christmas. This year one was available for that same week, but I am not going then. The hotel is packed at those times - but discounts exist. I would even propose the counter argument - it can be easier to get a discount if you already have the room booked. When AP discounts open for the weeks after Christmas this year, I already have the room booked. I think I have a better shot of getting the discount applied to my existing reservation than I do at finding a room that I want on those dates.
