How early is too early for a PTR? Who cares!

Hi! I'm starting my PTR even though we're not going until January of 2013!!!!!!Why? Because my family is tired of hearing me talk about it. So whoever would like to be my victim and listen to me drone on and on about details that will change a million times between now and then come join in!

Here is my family:

P1020559.jpg

Back: Me, DH, Front L-R: DD 7 almost 8, DS 9, DS 4, DS, just turned 7.
This was taken at our last trip to Disney in 2009. It was a surprise trip that turned out fabulous, except for the surprise part. Who knew my kids didn't like surprises?:confused3

Okay, as a side note, how do I make my picture size smaller? That's going to drive me nuts!

So anyway, we knew after that trip we wanted to come back in a few years, but I wanted to wait until after Art of Animation was open and the Fantasyland expansion was done. I've been pestering my husband to come up with a plan and put it in motion. I am a planner. He is a doer. See, I guess I should explain something. The last trip? Yeah. Wasn't his idea. I booked it, planned it, and paid for it. Then I told him. Worked out well. No honest. It did. He got a great vacation, didn't have to plan it, pay for it, or above all else listen to me plan it!!!!:rotfl2:

Well, this time around is a little different. Although I am a huge Disney freak, the rest of the family not so much. They enjoyed the trip to Disney, but given the option they'd just as soon go to SeaWorld San Antonio. (They don't get the option!) So anyway, this might be their last visit for a while so I expect input!!!

I haven't even booked yet. I'm still waiting for FD to come out and it will be a while. I'm not in any big hurry anyway. Just working and saving and of course planning ;). Last time we stayed at ASMu. Loooovved it! But like I said earlier, this time I wanted to try out Art of Animation. Til I checked out the prices. Wow.:scared1: For a value? Okay maybe not.

So I started playing around. Now last time we were there my husband kept seeing All Star Sports and wanted to stay there. He is a huge sports enthusiast. Loves to watch, loves to play. But pleeeaase! ASSp? Really? No, honey I don't think so. (OVer my dead body) So I got all the kids together and went to allears to check out the videos and pictures of the other values. Everyone had a favorite. Want to know what was decided? Well, you'll have to wait until after I do the laundry :laundy:

Be back soon! Maybe.:rolleyes1

Hello again to all you lurkers. :goodvibes Yes, I see you out there all 27 of you! Just in case you were wondering yes, I got quite a bit of the laundry done. About four loads. Still have 2-3 loads today. Then I'll be all caught up! But I have a few minutes before we leave for church so I thought I'd throw out a few more tidbits of information. Just to keep this from disappearing into the netherworlds of threads! Let's see, Oh yes, I promised to tell you where the kids wanted to stay.

Well, DD and DS (4-now 6) agreed with me that 2 rooms at ASMo would be nice. I was torn between ASMo and POP though and DS (7- now 8) thought POP looked cool. My oldest DS agrees with his father on everything. I swear, he's my husband's mini me. So of course he wanted ASSp. (He's 11 now by the way.)

Then, I started playing around and looking at Moderates. They haven't really been on our radar because we are very frugal people. How can we get the most bang for our buck?! We have a contest amongst ourselves each Christmas to see who can get the best Christmas present for the least amount of dough. My husband usually wins.A couple of years ago he made some birdhouses for my grandmother out of a leftover pallet of cedar that he got for $50. (You should see the play fort he built my kids for $50. Around here to buy that thing would have cost a family of four a trip to WDW!) Anyway, back to grandma, she loved them. Swore up and down we bought them from some boutique. Nope.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh, yeah Moderates. Well, let me be honest your not going to get an answer to this question today. Mainly 'cause I haven't decided. My boys really like the Pirate ship at CBR.pirate: My Mom and Daughter (and myself too, for that matter) really like POR. I would love to put my Dad at CSR though. Oh wait I got ahead of myself didn't I? Sorry.:sad2:

Okay, backing up. See last time we went my mother begged to go. But I was mean and said no. I wanted a trip with just my family. I was nervous enough about seeing everything and doing everything they wanted without Mom slowing us down. She moves at a more relaxed pace you might say. So this time around I begged for them to come along. Of course, my father, the cheapskate, wasn't going for it. Absolutely not. Basically if it isn't my Dad's idea he's not paying for it. Although my Mom did nag him into a trip to Boston this week with my oldest son.

So I started in on the guilt trip with my father. My son and his family live about 30 minutes from my parents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. My Mom watches my niece for them. (She is the cutest thing ever. I think she gets it from her aunt!) And my niece has my Dad wrapped around her little finger which is absolutely hilarious 'cause my Dad really isn't a baby/kid type person. So I just pointed out how I'm sure that if she were going Dad would have already booked his trip. No dice. He wasn't falling for it.

Finally, this last weekend I met with success! We were down dropping my oldest off for this trip to Boston. I had been wheedling my Dad and talking nonstop about Disney. Finally, last Sunday they day before we were leaving pixie dust fell in my lap. About 12 years ago my father started flying. Learning to fly has been a lifelong dream of his. I find it a very dangerous dream for him. The man has ADD and can't drive 30 minutes without falling asleep. (Unless he's had a coke) I've held out 12 long years harassing him about how flying with him isn't safe. Well, Sunday morning in his Sunday School class a couple just got back from WDW with their kids/grandkids. (They go every year about this time for Night of Joy.) I got the couple to promise to continue to harass dad in my absence and they happily agreed. Well, it didn't take long, at Sunday dinner the topic of his flying came up and he begged me to go up with him. So, the evil child that I am I played on his desires. I would go up with him if he would go to Disneyworld with us. He was out the door and in the car on the way to the hangar before I could get up from the table! Sucker!:lmao: I never had a real problem flying with him I just wanted to harass him!

So now our cast includes my Mom and Dad. I don't have a real good picture of them. I'll have to find one. The nice thing about this is that they will wind up spending about $2000 while I end up saving about $1000. I can put two of my kids in a room with them and only have to get 1 room. I mean we'll have a room and they'll have a room and we'll split the kids between the rooms. So we can definitely go moderate. WooHoo!:woohoo: Now which moderate? Well, that is a debate that will have to wait until at least after church. But feel free to weigh in with your opinions. Just be sure to tell me why its your favorite!

Well, since I'm going back to work tonight I thought I'd come and fill you in. Yes, I work nights. I love my job. I work as a nurse tech at a very small surgical hospital. We do mostly day surgeries, but we do have a patient stay unit with 18 beds. Most of our surgeries are elective. (Who knew that having a knee replacement or hip replacement was considered elective surgery?:confused3) The other caveat is that you have to be in pretty good health. We don't take kindly to people dying at our hospital. That's what the big house is for! (That's what we call our regular hospital here. And that's where we send you if your body starts doing things we don't like!)

I would have come back to chat yesterday, but I was busy. I had to be at the Dr. at 8. I have these allergies that will not go away. I stayed home from work last Thursday night because I was so miserable. I got off work Thursday morning and went straight to the Dr. he gave me a Kennelog shot, a 5 day Z-Pac, and Omnaris. Yesterday, I still wasn't any better. So i went back. Now, I'm on 10 days of Augmentin, some new prescription antihistamine that I'm supposed to take every 4 hours but can't because it makes me sleepy and I have to work, and Mucinex DM. I feel better, but I still can't hear anything. My ears have been completely stopped up since the Sunday I went flying in my Dad's airplane. I know, I know that was over a week ago. :sad1: My nurses are going to be thrilled at work tonight. But it is our busy season so I really need to be there. We have a tendency to reach maximum occupancy Oct. - Dec.

After I finished with the Dr., took the children to breakfast, and filled my prescription, it was off to Goodwill to hunt for a costume to wear to a party Saturday night. My husband and I are not big partiers. Especially not the costume type. I think this is the first costume party we've been to in, well, in uh, okay ever. :woohoo: Its an 80's rock and roll theme. So I found a pair of jeans, a black longsleeved t-shirt, a wide black patent leather belt, and black leather boots with 2 in. spike heels. After finding all this, I had to drive 30 minutes to my MIL house. She helped me turn the jeans into a jean skirt. I don't sew..at all. I think I could have done this transformation myself, but it was faster just to have her do it. I think it took her 20 minutes. I put rips in an old pair of hubby's jeans and I still have to do an acid wash on them both. Got my shirt all cut up too. Now it has the huge off the shoulder neckline and fringe bottom. I'm debating about whether or not to add rhinestones.:rolleyes1 On the way home from work, hubby stopped by a costume store and picked up a platinum blonde male heavy metal rocker wig. For a pretty strait laced Baptist minister, he's gonna look pretty funny. We won't discuss what I'll look like.

Now on with the show! :happytv: Wow, no opinions. Well, here's what I've come up with. Originally we wanted to do CBR. My boys loved the pirate pool and I've heard such great things from everyone who has stayed there. But then when it was just going to be the 6 of us I started looking at the cabins at Ft. Wilderness. I wasn't crazy about sharing a double Murphy bed with my husband, but I liked being on the water for the Water Parade at night and being close to the Hoop De Doo. Then after staying at Mom and Dad's last weekend I realized there was absolutely NO WAY hubby and I could share a double for a week and live to tell about it! :scared1: So I was off to POR. Which was fine. My boys weren't thrilled, but they could deal. My daughter on the other hand was ecstatic! But as I was reading someone else's PTR I realized that CSR also had Queen beds and didn't seem to have the complaints about the busses like POR! Score! :cheer2: Plus, my Dad would be thrilled with CSR. That is totally up his alley. So as of right now we are looking at CSR!:banana:

So it has been a week or so. The only thing that has really changed is my Disney fund. It took a BIG hit. I got sick and it took me two trips to the Dr. about $100. Plus, I got behind on the grocery shopping so I had to pay Wal Mart prices instead of the salvage store prices that I normally pay and that cost me about $50. But the big hit came when I decided to buy the kids RockBand for the Wii. I found it on ebay and got it with shipping for $198.00. Sooo, since I have awhile I will probably find away to recoup the money, but just in case we may wind up at ASMu again which is fine we were all happy there.

My oldest son just got back from Boston. My parents took him on the trip. They all had a blast. They went on the USS Constitution, went on a whale watching boat, walked the Freedom Trail, went to Plimouth Rock, saw the Louisa May Alcott house, and my son's favorite, Thoreau's cabin. All in all it was a good time. They were there a week and I don't think he was to thrilled to be back home and no longer an "only" child.

We'll see if my parents end up going with us. I managed to make my Mom pretty mad (which happens on a weekly basis). So I wouldn't be surprised if they just "didn't have the money" when it comes time to mak reservations. She doesn't want to do the long drive. I understand that, we're talking 18 hours from their house in just a couple of days. I thought about trying to pay for their room so all they would have to pay for would be airline and tickets, but if I can't recoup my losses then that is probably not an option.

It is about to be busy season at work so don't be surprised if this gets buried. I'll come back out on top in January.

Well, it seems that I can't get an accurate quote for CSR for 2012's free dining. But I know it runs only a little more than CBR. Right now our quote for CBR is $4558.86. That includes 9 day base tickets, free dining, Disney Quest tickets (not Water Park n' More), the cost of gas down there and back (1457 miles one way!) and four hotel rooms- 2 on the way down, 2 on the way back, for 2 adults and four kids. My parents will be going as well and their quote is around $2,096, but that doesn't include their travel arrangements. My Mom doesn't want to drive and at they're age I can't blame them. Of course, at this point my Mom doesn't really want to go and is looking for ways to get out of it. I think my Dad is pretty committed. I want them to go, not just because I think they'll enjoy it, and my kids will enjoy having them there, but because it saves me money on an extra room! No, I'm kidding. It does make it cheaper, but I really think the kids would like having them there.

My dad wants to go to Bible Land. We may try to work that in. At first I told him, "No" because of time restraints, but I think he was really disappointed. Right now, the biggest factor is money. We're 15 months out and I only have around $800 saved. Last month I had $1000, but then I bought the kids a Christmas present, missed a couple of days of work, and totally forgot that I was scheduled to go to Women of Faith with a group of ladies form church and that seems to be costing me an arm and a leg!:scared1: That trip is in a couple of weeks and I'll drop around $300 for that weekend. I've resorted to cashing out a little bit of PTO on every check at work. Right now I have the equivalent of 5 weeks of PTO :cool1:. I'll never use that much. So I'm going to whittle it down to 3 weeks. My PTO counts as my vacation and sick leave, so I do want to leave quite a bit in there just in case an emergency comes up.

This morning I researched the price of hotel rooms in Clearview, Fla. 'cause that's where we'll stay on the way down there and back. It's gonna be roughly $85/room/night. Of course all of these quotes are before tax and we all know that prices will increase for next year. They always do.

I'm still working on our scrapbook album for our Dec. 2009 trip. And then I still have the trip I took with friends last January sans family (they're not bitter :rolleyes1) I also need to make a chart to hang up so they family can help track our Disney savings. Right now my kids are being so wasteful with food that its really taking a toll on my grocery budget. Maybe if I make a visual and they understand the more food they waste the less we have for Disney they'll get it.

Well, I hear munchkins running and playing and not working so I suppose I should go crack the whip. Oh, one last question, I was going to wait to book until free dining dates came out (a big assumption I know). We're getting the dining plan either way, I would just really prefer not to pay for it. Should I go ahead and book as soon as I can and then just adjust my dates to free dining (if that's possible?) or wait? I just want to be sure to get my ADRs in at the 180 day mark.

I just found your Pre Tripreport. Me and my friend are planning a trip to WDW February 2013 :cool1:

I'm also thinking of booking Art of Animation Resort but I'm also looking into the Moderate Resorts :)

I'm looking forward to follow your Pre Tripreport and see how you count down to your trip.

I don't know if it's a good idea to book as soon as possible and the adjust the dates to get free dining or if it's best to wait.
Since I live in Europe I have decided it is easiest for me to book online when I know the free dining dates because I don't like the idea of calling Disney in USA to change my dates so I get the free dining.

I hope your parents decides to join you. Hopefully both your familly and your parents will have enough time to save for your trip.

:welcome:

I'm so glad to have an actual reader as opposed to the ghosties that are lurking!:lovestruc (It's okay I love everyone the same!;))

May I just say Wow! What an undertaking to travel all the way from Europe! I can't wait to get to know you through this trip report. I've always wanted to ask someone who lived in another part of the country or another country altogether about the differences in living, but I never have. My Dad went to Norway several times (years ago) on business. He always commented on how nice and clean everything was kept. So you may want to gracefully back out now :rolleyes1 before I pester you to death!:yay:

My first trip to the USA and Canada was when I was 2 years old.
The next time I was in the USA was when I was 6 years old (turned 7 years old while we were in the USA) and we lived in Madison in the state Wisconsin for a year while my dad went to University there.

The next time and so far my last time in the USA was when I was 11 years old. Then we were there on holdiay after living in Nicaragua for 6 months while my dad worked there for a Norwegian company. That was in 1990.

I have wanted to go back to the USA to visit Disney World or/and Disneyland, but I haven't had anyone to travel with before now. So now a friend and I are going to the USA for a month. Visiting WDW and renting a car to drive from Orlando to Los Angeles. My friend has never been to the USA.

When we lived in the USA for a year we went on vacation by car visiting many states.

Holy crap- thats expensive--

I think i missed how many days you want to spend in the world.

And is that the amount for everyone or just your family?

--
my thoughts with value vs a moderate.

If you get free dining its only going to be for counter services- no fancy sit down dinners.
if you want to upgrade to regular dining it will cost you 15.00 per adult per night to upgrade. now--staying at the moderate you get the regular dining plan.

So figure out the cost for adding the dining plan to the value then compare it to the moderate price.

my name is cheryl and i am an avid vacation planner. My vacations through 2013 is now done.
we are going on carnival legend in Janaury 2012. Aruba August 2012
Ruby Princess February 2013 and Disney December 2013.
My Legend is paid in full including airfare. My aruba trip is paid except for airfare. I make monthly payments for Ruby and can not deposit disney until August 2012.

Hi Serena!!! I know I just LOVE planning vacations. As far as price goes it is a little pricey, but it is the best I can find for that time of year based on what we want. I absolutley want to go in January. (Actually, I would prefer the week after Thanksgiving, but I can't get off work then) I love the cool time of year and the low crowds. I don't do heat and I don't do crowds! :rotfl: (So happy Disney is open year round!:lovestruc) The price is jsut for my family of 6. My Mom and Dad's comes out to about $2,096. I think. (I'm at work right now and all my figures are on my home computer.)

Right now, I'm planning on 9 day tickets. It'll be 8 nights and I'm only planning on spending 6 days in the parks. I'm buying the extra days worth of tickets 'cause they really don't cost anything hardly at that point and then I can use up the food credits.

I can go value, but I wind up having to pay for two rooms because my husband and I have expanded too much to manage a full size bed for an entire week. So, I can do value, stay at All Star Music or Art of Animation in a family suite DH and I get king sized beds and the kids share doubles. Plus, I upgrade the QSDP to DDP. And my parents would get a room with a king size bed.

Another option is to get three rooms at ASM or POP. 1 King with a connecting to a double. And my parents would get a King. Again we would upgrade the DP.

My other option is to stay at either POR or CSR (I know my quote above say CBR, that's just 'cause the website was out of quotes for CSR so we'll be facing a slight increase based on the different hotel choice.) If I do this I can get one room for me, DH, and two kids. My parents will pay for another room and 2 of my kids will bunk with them. So, it saves me the cost of an extra room or a suite.

I've even looked at staying off property, but I must say by the time I add in food and the perks of being able to send purchases back to the room I really want to stay on Disney property.

You should see my spreadsheet with all of my pricing quotes!:goodvibes

Anywhoo, we're still like what 15 months out so you know everything is up for change at this point!!!

Ah all the choices one has to make. It can get overwhelming. I can only imagine how it is for you with that many people. We are only 2 people going and I can't decide which resort to stay at. As you said it's still 15 months until your trip so you still have time :)

subbing :thumbsup2 you have a beautiful family 3 boys :scared1: I don't know what I would do :lmao: My son is crazy and he is only 3 such a difference from my girl who was an angel (key word was ;) )

AOA looks so cool. I would love to stay there myself. If it was open in March we would totally be there..We will be staying at movies with with free dining but it actually isn't free because we upgraded to DDP..

You know I live in Mass and haven't seen half the things your son saw while he was here :rolleyes1

well looking forward to reading along must get my daughter ready for school now :)

but the dining is not tied to the amount of days on the ticket- its tied to the amount of days for your stay.

I see you are going almost a full year before me. You want to go in January and I am going in Dec.

its my family- 8 adults. 4 kids. (for now)
for me- to make it easier-- I will get a package price then divide it by the 8 adults.

Its nice to see others p[lanning. I can then compare and add and subject what I see/dont see.

PS- will fantasy land be done and opened by January>

I considered the week after Thanksgiving but it seems like more and more people go that week. That and the fact that I LOVE that time of year and I am not sick of the cold yet, still in love with it. So we are planning on January too

You get food credits based on nights stayed, not park days

We loved POR

Did that last time, and have no intentions of doing it again. It certainly wasn't bad, and if I never did on site it would be one thing, but I have done it so I know what I am missing..

That is brother not son right? Just making sure I am following... I have 15 months to get it all straight lol

Now which moderate? Well, that is a debate that will have to wait until at least after church. But feel free to weigh in with your opinions. Just be sure to tell me why its your favorite!

I think we are going with the cabins at Ft W next time. DH loves hot tubs and really prioritizes that on a trip so it is hard to talk him into a value.
And when we were pricing out AoA vs. cabin, taking into consideration what I really want is free dining so I would have to add on an upgrade... it just made more sense to do the cabin. Then when I factored in the golf cart I figured I might as well get connecting rooms at POR. But then I thought about it some more and we can just use the busses and skip the golf cart. I really want to try Ft. Wilderness :thumbsup2 We loved POR though when we went in 09. Honestly the boat to DTD was great.

Looking forward to over analyzing and changing plans with a fellow Jan 2013er :thumbsup2

brr- can you use Hottubs in january?
Absolutely. We are New Englanders though, most of the people I know that have them around here take mid winter dips ;)

Not jut hot tubs though, I am sure we will all be swimming too. We went in Feb one year and had such a good time playing in the water at Universal. Couldn't figure out why no one else wanted to play in the water :confused3:laughing:

subbing :thumbsup2 you have a beautiful family 3 boys :scared1: I don't know what I would do :lmao: My son is crazy and he is only 3 such a difference from my girl who was an angel (key word was ;) )

Welcome Dilligaf212! Yes its amazing how different kids are. (And is it bad that I'm dreading the upcoming teen years with my daughter?:scared1:) She is normally so quiet, but I jsut know I'll be payin for my raisin then. I tease my Dad and brother all the time that I don't think its fair that I have to pay for THEIR raising. My husband was a pretty calm kid who didn't get into too many scrapes, so I know all the fits the two little boys put me through come from my side of the gene pool.

I love all of the theming at ASM! I'm sure it'll be a great trip.

My oldest had a great time in Boston and has written up his trip report. Since we homeschool, that was his English assignment his first week back. He's still waiting on his Dad to show him how to take his pictures and make a slideshow/powerpoint presentation with them on the computer.

but the dining is not tied to the amount of days on the ticket- its tied to the amount of days for your stay.

Okay, first off :headache: Doh! This ain't my first rodeo so how in the heck did I TOTALLY mess up thinking the dining was tied to the number of the days on the ticket. :confused3 You are SO right. I don't know WHAT I was thinking. Definitely need to make an appointment with the Dr. and have my head examined! I think the scary part is I KNOW better. That's why we have the DIS right?:thumbsup2

We went the week right after Thanksgiving in 2009 and I SO loved it. I love seeing all of the Christmas lights and LOVE hearing the Christmas music. I must say I'm slightly jealous!:lovestruc

And yes Fantasyland will be open, hooray! But the Seven Dwarves mine train isn't scheduled to open until late 2013 so we will for sure miss that. The second half of Storybook Circus with Pete's Silly Sideshow is scheduled to open in late 2012. I'm not counting on that just in case they run behind. My kids are older so the only big thing that they'll miss is the Mine Train. We had a great debate yesterday about whether or not to put it off another year to see ALL of Fantasyland in its glory, but ultimately the kids decided that one ride wasn't worth waiting a whole year for!

Second, Oh, Wow! I looked at Ft. Wilderness. I liked several things about it, the Water Parade, being on site for the Hoop De Doo, taking a water taxi to Downtown Disney, being able to rent kayaks and canoes. But having to share a double bed with my husband is what got me in the end. He of course swears we could make it work. Uh huh. :rolleyes:I've been around when neither one of us gets a good night's sleep for several nights in a row. Not pretty.

In the end we may wind up at POR. It'll definitely be cheaper than CSR. So we'll see what happens.

And yes, I was referring to my brother! lol!

The boat to DTD is actually at POR not Ft W so you are in luck :thumbsup2 Ft w has the boat to MK, Contemporary and WL.
