How early for good spot for afternoon parade?

I am assuming the new parade is drawing bigger crowds than the old parade and we'll have to line up a bit earlier. My son's high school band marches at 2:30 just prior to the afternoon parade. How early do I need to line up on Main St. to be in the front?

That is a good question, and I supposed depends quite a bit on just how popular the new parade is. If you absolutely HAVE to watch from Main Street, I would say at least be IN the area an hour before the parade, and stalk the curb line. When you start seeing other people lining up, that is your cue to get a spot.

However, if his parade follows the entire route of the afternoon parade, and will be going through the Frontier Land area of the park, I would say go for a spot back there. We have gotten good, and sometimes even perfect spots, even for the night parade, in Frontier Land as little as 10 to 15 minutes before the parade starts.

We always get some food to go, and sit on the curb to eat it and wait for the parade. Getting to the curb an hour ahead of time, doesn't seem so wasteful, when that is the time you have chosen to eat.

I'd really like to get a picture of the band with the castle in the background which is why I was thinking of Main St. - other good spots? Hopefully the parade will not be reversed last minute so I will be on the 'right' side to get a pic of ds clearly.
