How early can you "start check-in now" for a resort using the Disney web site (or My Disney Experience app)?

For checking in to a resort using the online (Disneyworld web site) or app "start check-in now" button, how early can you/should you do this? When you land at the airport? When you get to the resort? A few days before? Thanks for any help!

My next trip is in October and I did the check in today because I figured why not.

I don't think it really matters when you do it, though I would do it at least a few days before you arrive if you have any location requests. The whole point of it is to simply skip the front desk.

It appear you can do this at any time. Different from other places we have stayed where you typically 'check-in' after landing at the airport. With Disney is doesn't seem to matter how long in advance you do this.
