How does trading points work?

Hi! We have signed our closing docs and sent finally payment! We plan to go to DW this Dec but are looking into DL in 2017. I understand VGC are difficult to get into at 7 months (our home resort is AKL) but we are flexible with travel dates. We also would like to go Mon-Fri and spend the weekend at the beach.

My questions are; how does trading work, and would a VGC owner want to trade? I'm guessing not since it's not as hard to get into AKL. Any ideas or advice?

The DVC Rent/Trade Board here on DISBoards allows people to rent reservations/points, transfer points, or trade. Take a look at the "Please Read Before Posting" thread in that board.

I'm not sure you'd find anyone willing to make that trade.

There are two options for people who don't want to take a chance on booking VGC in the 7-month window. The easier option is to rent a reservation from a VGC owner. The harder option is try to find a VGC owner who wants to transfer their points. Once you have the transferred VGC points in your account you can use them to book VGC in the 11-month window.

If you wouldn't be using your AKV points, you could rent them out to pay for your VGC reservation.

We did the "rent points through David, rent out our points through David to pay for it" for a hard to get Summer HHI reservation. That is the easiest way, although you should know that GCV points for rent have more demand than supply. There is no guarantee of points being available through the rental market.

Thanks! I think I'll try to book at 7 months and if I can't get anything with flexible dates, I'll rent points.
