How does trading into RCI work??

Can you just trade x amount of points to use in the next year or do you actually have to find/pick a place with a date? Thanks!

You can either deposit points into RCI(which I never do) or book a reservation for a specific date. Whenever I decide that I want to do RCI, I decide where I want to go, what dates I want to go there, and book the dates on the DVC RCI website. So far, I've booked RCI resorts in Las Vegas, Hawaii(two reservations) and Aruba. I start looking on the website about two years out and usually am able to book a little more than a year out. I just booked Aruba a couple of weeks ago for Easter 2015. Although other people do, I prefer not to deposit points with RCI because if I can't get the resort I want for when I want I use those points to go somewhere else. If I deposit them with RCI, I can only use them there.

Make sure you do your research before you book. When the listings come available, they don't last long--some only minutes--and you don't have time to do research then. Also, don't call MS to make your reservation, but do call them with questions--they are helpful most of the time. They see the same thing we do and I lost a reservation by calling them. By the time I got through, it wasn't there anymore. You can be sure I didn't make that mistake again!

Up to 2 yrs down the road. You can also set up a request first 2 yrs out. Potentially, with most things the points need to be available in the UY of the trip but I don't believe they adhere to that with RCI but you might want to double check. If you do deposit first, do either 160 or 270 HIGH season at least 46 days out even if you have to add to it or don't fool with it. Then get your requests in over the 2 yr period.
