We are spending part of the Christmas holidays with DH's family near Fort Meyers and part at WDW in Beach Club Villas!!!!!

We have been watching the airfares go up and it has been pretty difficult finding fares under $300 from Harrisburg, PA to Fort Meyers, FL. DH found today:

round trip
Harrisburg-Fot Meyers
December 21-29
$235 per person

We took them. We never traveled this time of year and have no idea what will happen with these fares. (I was surprised at how much lower they were flying into Orlando though)

How do you think we did???

Thanks!
Karen

Karen,
Last year, we went to MCO the same week. We paid $250 per out of Philadelphia on USair. I think you did good.

Which airline was it? I'm starting to search for the week before Easter (we're cruising) and am not finding any rate that I'm happy with...I think I'm still too far out from our dates.

I can sympathize with you Karen, we were in the same boat. We wanted to fly out of Harrisburg, but the prices were outrageous. We'll be flying around Thanksgiving (Friday before to Friday after) and didn't want to take our chances with waiting for lower fares. We booked our (4 tickets) in February on USAir from BWI to MCO for $800 total. We have transfers in Charlotte, but we felt that was a more "doable" airport than Atlanta. I still can't believe how many planes fly from BWI to Philadelphia and then are non-stop. BWI is only about an hour from us, and Philly is about 1-1/2-2 hours, so BWI was our only choice since it's closer and we are somewhat familiar with it. Good luck. I keep hearing ads on the radio that say they are trying to make Harrisburg prices comparable with Philly and BWI, but I can't image how they are going to do that.

pixiechick..we are flying Delta. Compared to the price you paid last year, we did great. Especially since we are flying out of a closer, smaller airport and flying about 150 miles southwest of MCO.

dtuleya.....we got great rates for this past June....Harrisburg to MCO.....about $700 for the four of us on US Air. I know we would have never found this rate to go to Fort Meyers. The more I think about it, the better I feel about the rate we got. We are a very easy hour 15 minute drive to Harrisburg. I do feel if they make Harrisburg prices comparable to Baltimore and Philly, they will need to think about a much larger terminal. It is very, very small.

I'm in upstate New York, I was wondering, might it be worth it for you to drive to mass or ny because I know I've seen better rates than that. And I don't know if Southwest goes out to PA but me and my sister got a friends fly free deal and In theory for one it is $224 total so my sister and I split the cost $112 each, nonstop too. I think southwest does this promotion a couple times a year. I hope this helped...

Southwest does not fly out of Harrisburg, at least not yet. I know they have started a MAJOR renovating project and will be expanding within the next two years. I have traveled out of Harrisburg several times and really like the airport but I have not found any non-stop flights to Orlando. I would really like to see at least one of the airlines put a non-stop to Orlando on their itineraries. Until then we'll fly out of Philly or BWI. The closest airport to Harrisburg that Southwest services is BWI. From what I've read on this board it's my understanding that Southwest does not assign seats--is this true all the time?!? I would have to rethink flying them if that is the case. We will just stick with US Air for now.
