How does Star Tours compare to MS Green in intensity?

Wondering if Star Tours will be ok for our 4 and 5 yo grandkids. They are all tall enough. I'm sure some kids that age love it and others don't. But since I haven't ridden it myself, but I have done Mission Space green, how do the two compare in terms of intensity? The kids have never done any kind of simulation rides at all.

Star Tours is going to be more "jerky" with more flashes, special effects, and "shaking/moving" sensations. With kids that age it is always difficult to predict how they are going to handle something. The best you can do is explain it to them, and see what they say, OR someone watches a youtube video to try to determine what it will be like for them.

It's hard to compare the two, they're quite different. Mission Space, as you know, is in a small confined cockpit...with a screen right in front of your face, harness over your shoulders, etc... Star Tours is like sitting in a small movie theater with a seatbelt. The floor moves around, somewhat jerky at times. So while they're both "movies", the way you experience them is quite different. Every kid is different, but IMO Star Tours is fine for any child tall enough.

I agree with Klayfish. I get motion sick and MS green made me a little queasy, on star tours I was fine. So besides the jerking around you may want to take that into consideration. If they like Star Wars they will love Star Tours IMHO.

My DD was almost 5 when we took her on it for the first time. She was pretty freaked out and asked us afterward if we had really gone into space. The whole fantasy aspect of it was lost on her. Once we convinced her it was all pretend, she rode it two more times and loved it.

The two most intense rides for her were Dinosaur (she was really scared) and Everest (roller coaster going backwards was a bit much for her).

My kids always did fine on it but it makes DH queasy. ( and DS10 is prone to motion sickness) I agree if they have seen Star Wars and liked it, they should be fine.

I would think they would be fine on Star Tours.
I think it is definitely more intense than MS green, though.

The first time we went on it DS was 4. He was too short for MS at the time, but liked ST. DD who was 8 at the time liked it too and she's not a ride kid (doesn't like anything more intense than BTMR). To me it feels less intense because you're in a very large ride vehicle that seats a lot of people. Feels like the bus of screen rides. But I'm not prone to motion sickness or anything like that.

Our young children loved Star Tours. I, on the other hand, got very motion sick from it. Young children are generally LESS prone to motion sickness than adults. So, I'd be more worried about yourselves than your grandkids if you're thinking about this aspect of the ride.

It would probably be worth asking their parents if they’ve ever had issues in the car. Giving kids a tablet (a longer book for older kids) in the car is probably the most common way of finding out they’re prone to motion sickness. It does seem more rare at that young an age though.

My daughter has been very prone to "car sickness" since she was a baby. We always give her meds for long car rides or she will very likely vomit. Star Tours didn't bother her a bit - she rode it three times back to back and loved it. She actually has never had an issue with any of the rides she's been on at Disney.

I, on the other hand, haven't even tried Star Tours, so I can't compare the intensity to Mission Space Green. If motion sickness isn't a concern, and you are more worried about them getting scared, I guess you won't know until you try.

Have they seen any of the Star Wars movies? It's not essential to have a good time on the ride, but I found that it helped my DD enjoy it more because she knew the characters and some of the planets and could follow the storyline.

My DD has been riding Star Tours since before she was 3 (she's quite tall for her age). On the same trip to Disneyland, she rode Star Tours multiple times, but after one trip on Pinocchio, she was DONE with that ride because it was "too scawy!" It's hard to know how they'll react to rides in advance.

Hard to do if DHS is your first park, but if you are going to other parks first, you can gage their reaction on other rides. Are they fine on the Barnstormer? BTMRR? Test Track? Splash Mountain? That will give you an idea of how well they might handle the ride motion.

I guess I should clarify since I brought up motion sickness. If you are looking at physical intensity Mission Space Green is definitely more intense. It actually has barf bags and warnings that you may get sick. If you are talking about theming then Star Tours is more intense. The story line has fighting and intense flying. MS green video is not as intense in comparison. I still think if your Grandchildren are fans of Star Wars they will like Star Tours because it is a chance to be a hero.
