How does Magic Band and MDE work?

Can someone explain how Magic Band, My Disney Experience, MYW+DD work together?

Let me describe my situation, a 3-generation WDW trip. My wife, my dad and I have separate MDE accounts. My family booked two MYW+DD packages - basically 2 rooms (2 reservations).

I linked my reservation (specifically - my room + MYW+DD) to my MDE account. My dad have done so for his account (dad + mom). I realized that for booking FP+, it seems we have to book separately.

Now my wife used her MDE account to make dining reservations. She also tried to link our resort reservation but it claims the reservation has already been linked to another account (yup, that's mine MDE account).

In other words - looks like my MDE manages everything under the reservation (resort, tickets, FP+ etc) while my wife's MDE only manages the dining reservations she have made. Is that normal?

Hmmmm. My expanded family group had 4 rooms (of 2, 2, 4 & 4 people). Only 4 of us have MDE accounts. I am "friends" with DS and parents who each have own accounts. I was able to book everything from within my account, and they could all see it, because of this. The only thing i couldn't do from my account was their online check-in. I'm wondering if you "created" a profile for your wife within your MDE rather than friending her account and selecting her existing profile? I'm not sure how to fix it, other than calling Disney and asking. But wanted to at least let you know that my experience was different, and probably what you were thinking would happen

My friend sent me a friend request. After I accepted, he made Fastpasses for both of us. (We each have our own MDE account.)

I think you could handle it by:
(a) Leaving the current dining resies in your wife's account.
(b) Don't use your wife's account for anything else.
(c) If you make any more dining resies, make them using your account.
(d) If you made the hotel resie in your account, then your wife should have an identity in your account, and her hotel Magic Band will be for her identity in your account. So Fastpasses for her should be made using her identity in your account. (Do not use her account to make Fastpasses.)
(e) I believe this means that your wife needs to use the Magic Band which arrives for this trip, and not any Magic Bands she has from prior trips or purchases if those Magic Bands are linked to her own account.
(f) Have your Dad send you a friend request. Accept it. Now he can make Fastpasses for his group and your group. And you can make Fastpasses for his group and your group.
