How do you tour in August?

Next year will be our first trip during August and was curious as to how people tour the parks? Do you get up early to hit the parks then return to hotel early afternoon, do you tour in the evenings when cooler.

In the past we have tended to be up early and out fpr the whole day but I would guess this is not practcail in the heat of August and also after three commondo style trips we want to take things at a much more relaxed pace.

Have 11 year DD, will be on the DDP (free of course!) and probably will not have a car

Hi Rob
We tend to go to parks for around opening or just after. Stay until for lunch then head back to hotel for a rest, pool, internet time etc. then go out for meal. We then like to do something in the evening but we found onsite with DDP meals take a lot longer than offsite so not as much time after the meal as we like.
Are we going to try plan another meal together next August?

Hi Wayne, as we will be both staying at same resort and on DDP it sounds like a plan :thumbsup2

our August touring style is very similar to Wayne's - we start early - getting to the parks just before opening (but not extra magic hours - we avoid those parks - just regular opening hours)..

then tend to go back to the resort at about 1 PM or thereabouts, depending where we eat (whether in the park or the hotel)...

we rest, swim, DH works, etc during the afternoon...
then usually at about 4 pm we head out to disneyquest or a movie or to a waterpark (typhoon lagoon is great at about 5 pm - you get 2 hours with low crowds)..

then dinner, then maybe fireworks, or maybe bed...
the heat really tires you out, so late nights are pretty much out of the question...maybe one or two extra magic hour late nights and that's it...

starting to consider itenery and have similar thoughts, have penciled in eaither early vsist, back afternoon the meal in evening, or sleep and then go out late afternoon early evening for meal and EMH/fireworks....I figured being up early and getting to bed late probably isn't doable in August without medical care or a divorce :lmao:

for the morning park, we found it worked well if we went to the park that had had EMH hours the previoius evening...

for example, let's say that DHS has evening EMH on sunday - so would we go to DHS on monday morning...

but more important than that was to be sure to avoid the morning EMH park..

we used to get up earlier and get to the EMH park, but a few years back we eased up just a bit on our commando style and aimed only to get there before regular opening and avoiding the morning EMH park completely.

We have never done EMH in the morning but have used it in the evening at times; good tip about visitng the park which the day before had EMH

Joshua is such an early riser so irrespective of what time of year we visit it's always our plan to get to any park as it opens.
The added advantage is you can get some rides under your belt before it starts to get busier and perhaps more important hotter.

Have never been one's for staying all day at parks so usually no later than 1pm and often sooner we head back to the villa, occasionally we return later in the day but on average we do other things.

We've been three times in August (and going again next August with free DDP popcorn::), and have found that just by taking a more relaxed pace suits us. We haven't tended to get to the parks especially early, but we do tend to stay until closing.

We always try to take in plenty of shows or indoor attractions which are air conditioned, make sure we have plenty of water to hand (we freeze half of our water that keeps the other half cold), and try and make sure we have a long-ish lunch again in air-conditioned locations. We also try to have at least a half-day in the water parks every two or three days to chill out.

Our last August visit to Disney was back in 2007 when DD was 9, and she had no problems at all coping with the heat and humidity. Last August we were in Orlando for a week (SW/BG/Aquatica/DC) but the weather was quite cloudy and not as intense a heat as we had experienced previously. You'll also need to be ready for some short but heavy showers in the afternoons, so ponchos at the ready!!

We haven't done August but September so similar weather.

We tend to up and out for park openings then around lunch time we head back to the hotel have a quick swim and shower then DD naps while DH & I relax in the room. We then have dinner and go back to the parks for fireworks etc.

This works for us but you will find your own routine! :thumbsup2

We tend to do the same; get to park for opening and the leave when we've had enough! This can vary from 1pm-5pm depending on how we're feeling. We try and do more relaxing activities in the afternoon when 'big' rides are busier and crowds get bigger too, Nemo show in AK, Universe of energy in Epcot etc. Caraousel of Progress in MK is always good for an afternoon nap:rotfl:

One thing I can't get through to my family - Don't do lunchtime showing of Cars, Motors, Action (is that what it's called?) in DHS - it's far too hot in August.

Evenings, esp. with DDP tend to be visiting other Disney hotels for meals and a 'wander' round; Downtown Disney or Boardwalk, oh and park visits just for fire-works etc.
