How do you store valuables if no safe in the hotel room?

We are staying at BWPPI which doesnt seem to have a safe in the hotel room. What would people normally do with their valuable? Store in the luggage with locks, or leave them in the hotel safety deposit box?

We don't bring much valuables, but when we do, we typically wrap it in some clothes then in the dresser with more clothes piled on, or hidden in clothes and locked away in our suitcase.

I put expensive laptops, ipads, and camera equipment in drawers covered by clothing. If something would get stolen it would be covered by my homeowner's insurance for replacement cost after a $500 deductible. To date we have never had and issue.

I put the "Do Not Disturb" sign... Otherwise, hiding amongst clothes, as others have mentioned. I've never had a problem yet. (Knock on wood.)

We leave the radio on, too, so that it sounds like someone is in the room. But most importantly, if there is no safe (and even when there is), we really try not to leave any valuables in the room if at all possible.

I actually have a small safe that goes in my car. It has a no cut cord that can be cut with bolt cutters, but not something someone would carry around.

I move it into the room and attach it to the pipes under the sink or to the bed frame, if I have to carry something valuable.

It isn't large enough for my laptop, but money and jewelry would fit.

I too use the sign. I don't need my room to be cleaned that often for a few days stay.

We lock our valuables in one suitcase, a bigger one. That way if something gets stolen the lock would have to be broken, proving something was taken purposefully. That, or they would have to steal a whole large suitcase!

We also use the do not disturb sign. Usually all we need is some new towels partway through our stay.

ALSO call the front desk or housekeeping to tell them that you don't need housekeeping that day.

At BWPPI we put up the DND sign, and found it off the door at the end of the day. And the room had been cleaned. I hadn't put anything away, not even my bras, and I truly did not want housekeeping, but never though about doing anything but putting up the sign.

The front desk, when I called to complain (and I was embarrassed b/c I had not left out a tip for housekeeping, of course), told me that "kids" run around the place, taking off signs from doors. So I really needed to call to make sure housekeeping knew I didn't need them.

For short periods of time, I slip a laptop into my pillowcase and set it in a place where it is unlikely to be disturbed. I've also buried it in dirty clothing, hid it in my vehicle and locked it into my suitcase.

I have one of these that we brought to Europe last year. You lock it to something solid in the room. But we ended up not using it very much because of the hassle. Mostly, we try not to bring anything that we would worry about. If you do bring valuables, leave them with the front desk. Many hotels have safes at the front desk where you can deposit valuables.
