How do you sleep the night before?

for me is 5-6 hours. The night before the trip? ZERO!!

I work nights and have prescription sleep medication to help me sleep during the day. In April when I went I made the mistake of working, then staying up all day and giving myself things to do (packing, target running, painting nails) then planning on crashing at night to regulate my schedule for the trip. I was so tired by the afternoon I thought I was gonna die but was so stressed that I was going to pass out and not have everything I needed done! I am not making that mistake in November. :)

I didn't know it was possible to sleep the night before a WDW trip!! We used to leave about 3am. I usually would try to lay down for a while, but there wasn't any sleeping. I'm a morning person anyway. I get up at 4:30 during the week. We have a 11-12 hr drive depending on how much we stop. A few years ago, we were meeting DD's dance team at WDW & had to be there early one Sat morning & we both had to work on Fri. We left about 9pm & got there around 9am. We decided that was an easier drive because we weren't stopping as much. We now leave about 6-7pm, get there 6-7am. We check in eat breakfast, change clothes, & head to a park. We take turns driving. DH is a late night person so we're alert at different times. We pack a cooler with Cokes, Mountain Dew, & Amp so we are wired & ready to go.

I am quite concerned about this - no way i am ever going to be able to sleep before my fisrt disney trip in almost 20 years (and my kids first trip!!!) In the days before kids I would sleep on the plane - no way they are going to let that happen! I hope the adrenaline will take me through the next day!

Tylenol PM for me..... otherwise, I'd be awake all night long. It's going to be hard enough falling asleep even with that.

We're not telling our DD4 that we're going to DisneyWorld until the morning we leave ....otherwise she'd be awake all night !! and she would be AWAKE if she knew ! :rotfl2:

Not going to sleep! Our flight leaves at 6:50 AM and we're getting dropped off super early the next morning so nope, no sleeping!

I usually don't sleep very well period and when it's the night before the trip I hardly sleep. I am anticipating my day and finally pass out around 3 but have to be up by 5 usually. I can't take a sleeping pill because I need a full 8 hours sleep. The next night at Disney I sleep like a log.

I don't sleep well normally but before a trip it is much worse. My Dr. recommended benadryl to help me sleep occasionally. Only problem was it had the opposite effect on me. It made me hyper and I got no sleep. :scared1:

Usually my flights are really early so I need to sleep on the plane, but always have problems doing that so last flight I tried something different, it backfired...

Neocitran! Whenever I get a cold I have this cold medicine (from Canada) with codeine in it that just knocks me out. Last trip I took to go and see my sweetie I had a 1250am flight so I wanted to make sure I slept on the plane since I wasn't scheduled in to Pittsburgh until 10am. About midnight I drink a Neocitran (kinda like Theraflu but a lot better) and a beer just to help out. Get to the gate and everything is late and goes wrong. Plane is late so I am falling asleep waiting. Finally get on the plane (after it is supposed to have been long gone) and fine I start falling asleep again and pilot comes on and says theres problems with the landing gear and we need to go back to PDX, ugh. Get to PDX have to reschedule the flight and I'm groggy as anything and out of Neocitran for the next flight (only brought one).

So.....if you can get your hands on Neocitran it works! But, make sure your flight is on time.

We usually take an early morning flight and need to be to the airport by 5:30 AM. - leaving the house @ 5:00 AM. I make sure most everything is done the night before, packing and the house cleaned, and still getting to bed by 9:00 PM. It's always hard for me to get to sleep, I'm so excited and nervous about the trip. I get up at 2:30 but spend most of the night watching the clock waiting for 2:30 to roll around. I always get a head ache on the plane, probably from lack of sleep and maybe not enough fluids. I hate to use the airplane bathrooms so don't like to drink a lot while flying. It's a long flight from Portland, Oregon. If we get to WDW early enough we go to EPCOT and watch the fire works and after that I'm ready for bed. I sleep really good that first night.

well i either leave on the 10.06 pm train to amsterdam or leave by car at 2 am so either way i wont be sleeping

Get up early the few days before. That way I get a fairly decent amount of sleep the night before. So I have a 7am Monday am flight I'll be up by 6am both days of the weekend. It'll be much easier if I don't sleep in at all next weekend.

White noise and an very light dinner the night before also works like a charm. I have to do a few 3 am shifts around the holidays, I just use the same principals while sleeping before a vacation.

When I was a kid, I could never sleep the night before, so I always ended up sleeping on drive down.
Now, I'm way too tired the night before, so I pass out and sleep like a baby.:goodvibes

I have been to Disney over 30 times, and I even live here in FL!!! If i know we are leaving in the morning, I still am sitting up too exited to sleep!! Idk what it is, not like I don't know whats gonna happen..lol!! Its too funny!
The next issue is the feeling I get when I round that corner and see that castle..I cry every single time!! My kids are like ok, moms crying, we can go now!! LOL!!

My trick: I imagine a trip into one of the parks (usually MK). I start with getting off the resort bus and walking up to the gate and continue until my mind drifts and I fall asleep. I try to be very detailed in my imagining so that my mind isn't tempted to wander off toward other things. I find it's a great way to get your mind to tune out all of the other things you want to think about (like "did I remember to pack such and such", "I hope no one gets sick", etc.) plus it channels the excited energy into something constructive so your body relaxes and you happily doze off :cloud9:

What are you talking about "the night before"? We are 29 days out, and I'm having trouble sleeping now. :lmao:

ooooh, heheheehe, that's sooo me now :p

I am already flipping around asking me if I should start real packing and at night I keep thinking about outfits and 'repacking my suitcase mentally' one hundred times...

eventually I fall asleep but I doubt I will at hte 'one night before' b/c our flight is reaaaaaly early in the morning and it's 13 hours trip till MCO!
