Here is my situation. I'm renting points to my SIL for eight nights in July. She doesn't want the DDP for one night in the middle of her trip.

This is what she wants:

first three nights DDP
fourth night no plan
last four nights DDP

How do I make that happen and keep her in the same room? Does it involve cancelling her current ressie and potentially losing some of those nights? I need an answer fast. She leaves in a few days. TIA

Give MS a call and explain what she wants, they do have to cancel the current reservation but ask them to check that availability is there before they proceed.

Seems a bit of trouble to me. She can use the Dinng Credits anyway she likes, don't use any one night/day and then she can use 2 TS Credits for a nice Signature Restaurant another night, that would be more fun for her and less work for you

That's what I suggested; there is no way I'd want to check in and check out, but she doesn't want to go to a 2 credit meal. I see where she is coming from--if you have no interest in a Sig restaurant it's basically throwing money away. I don't mind changing the reservation if it can be done.

They should be able to segment it without losing it. Call MS, tell the CM what you want to do and be sure to let them know that you DO NOT want to do it if there is any chance they will lose the reservation.

Then please let us know what happened, OK? :teeth:

I just did this on Saturday and it was very easy. I called MS and had my 8 night reservation for a 2BR at BLT starting 7/19 segmented into 4 reservations so I could go on the DxDP for two separate nights. The CM knew exactly what I wanted and was able to do it all and add the DxDP in less than 10 minutes. I don't think that they have to cancel the reservation and there should be no risk of losing it.

I would be interested to know how your stay goes at BLT. I had no problem segmenting our reservation into multiple parts for our stay at BLT 6/29-/711.
We just returned home and had a great time.

However, the problems with segmenting of the dining plan were crazy. I knew going into this that there were going to be problems, so I was mentally prepared, but I just hoped for better.

We got locked out of our room several times, had to go to the front desk many, many times, sometimes twice in one day. I had to deal with a snippy woman who came out from "the back" to try and "fix the problem." After our first night, we got locked out of our room and the only way they could fix the problem was to cancel our entire reservation and redo it. Interestingly, we had the same exact problem in April. It took them a half hour to redo our reservation. Also, sometimes our dining credits worked and sometimes they didn't.

One thing I did learn - always keep your "old card" when you check out and check in again. The people at the front desk always wanted to take it and get rid of it, telling me that I should use the new card. However, the dining credits were always left on the other card until midnight and the new card only worked to unlock our door.

Good luck. We have segemented before in February and April and had some similar problems, but was hopeful that they would get the kinks worked-out. Better luck next time, I guess.

Hi bastraker,
We just got home. There were some issues but overall it was not that bad. We checked in on Tuesday 7/19 on the Deluxe Dining Plan for 1 night, then no DP for the next 3 nights, then the DXDP again for 1 night and then no DP for the last 3 nights. So our reservation was segmented as follows:

1) 7/19-7/20 - Deluxe
2) 7/20-7/23 - none
3) 7/23-7/24 - Deluxe
4) 7/24-7/27 - none

The first issue we had was that we were locked out of our room on 7/20. I went to the front desk and explained the segmenting to the CM but she didn't seem to understand at all and I am pretty sure she just re-printed the keys. I retuned to the room and still couldn't get in. I went back to the front desk and the CM I had this time understood everything and said that she would check me out and then back in. Still couldn't get in. So back to the front desk and this time I got a great CM. He told me that most likely the reservation was "broken". He went to speak with the manager who cancelled everything and then re-booked it. This did the trick.
For the next segment, they actually called and scheduled delivery of the new keys to my room on Saturday morning. They worked fine and had all of the dining credits. I never had to go to the front desk for the remainder of the trip. These keys worked for the duration.

The only other issue that I had was that part of my folio got separated and was not included in the final bill they left at my door. I noticed that there were 2 charges made to my cc on 7/23 that did not show up on my folio. The manger came out to help straighten this out. He phoned the billing dispute number and they were able to determine that a separate folio was opened for the 7/23-7/24 segment and it was not joined with the rest of the folio. Everything was correct and the 2 cc charges showed as payments on the "hidden" folio. He was very apologetic and actually credited my account $5 for a charge the kids made in the arcade while I was meeting with him.

Overall, it is disappointing that Disney's computer system is so inept. The 3rd CM that helped with my keys had some pointed comments about the system and said that he and his manager have had several conversations about the embarassments and frustration that it has caused. But I feel that the benefit of being able to use the DP on select days far outweighed the glitches. I never purchased that DP before because I did not want to be on it the entire time. We enjoyed the 2 days (actually we spread the credits over 4 days) on the DXDP but it was more than enough. I would not have wanted to do it for a third day, and I am a big guy with a big appetite.

My advice to anyone still reading is to go ahead and take advantage of the segmenting but at the first sign of an issue, ask to have a manager involved because you have a "broken"reservation.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for posting your experience.

I had the same problem with being locked out of our room after the first night. That has happened on our last 3 trips. I don't understand why they can't fix that. All 3 times the entire reservation had to be cancelled and rebooked.

We are going back in October, so I guess we will give it another try.

......(snip)......We are going back in October, so I guess we will give it another try.

My belief is that this is now mostly a CM training issue (since the right person was able to fix it) and that as more MS and front desk personnel get trained and experienced, we will hear less and less about problems. I hope that is true, as it seems the ability to have one of the dining plans for less than the entire stay is a VERY NICE PERK! It is good enough that I think Disney may not allow it in the future!

I am especially intrigued with having the deluxe version for the night we go to the Candlelight Processional. At $78.99 per person, it makes the CP Dinner package affordable again - because in addition to the CP pkg, you would get a TS dinner the next night, plus 2 snacks and a refillable / souvenir mug.

A big thank you to bastraker and Mike for sharing their recent experiences. :)

First of all CarolMN, you are very welcome :)

I agree with what you are saying about the experience of the CMs but there is still a system element to it. As the helpful CM explained to me, the first two CMs were really not at fault because the reservation was showing "green" in the system which indicates to them that the keys are correct and should work - even though that is not the case because of the shortcomings of the system. In fact, even the third CM initially thought there was an issue with the battery in the door lock (which happened to me before at OKW) because everything looked ok in the system. As soon as I mentioned the segmenting, he knew enough about the possibility of the reservation being broken. That is why my advice to everyone is, at the first sign of an issue, insist on having a manager involved to fix the broken reservation. Otherwise the CMs will send you on a wild goose chase because they have no reason to believe that what the system is telling them is not correct.

I agree that this is a fantastic perq for us. We were able to spread the three TS and 2 snacks over 2 days each time we did the Deluxe Plan. I was so full the day after that I actually skipped dinner. There were six of us and we got 12 mugs because you get one each time you are on the Deluxe Plan.

The first time, we did San Angel Inn for dinner, Tony's Town Square for an early lunch and 1900 Park Fare for a late dinner. The second time we did Chef Mickey's for dinner, 1900 Park Fare for breakfast and Cape May for dinner.

I think your plan for the CP is an excellent idea. Have fun!
