How do you say YUM in Canadian? 7 Days on DxDP w/ pix! *COMPLETED 3/21*

Brittany and I had a 5pm Tusker House dinner ressie at the Animal Kingdom. I had never been here before, and I wasn't really sure what to expect.

The spread for dinner begins with an assortment of breads, then a few different salads with various dressings. There's a meat carving station with pork and beef, as well as rotisserie chicken (that's self serve). I'm not really sure how much of an "African" edge the place had, but it certainly didn't have standard buffet food. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the buffet, but here are our plates.

Side note: I found it funny that the most popular item seemed to be the corn dog bites from the children's section. People were lined up waiting for refills every time we went back!

Brittany's first plate (the BREAD plate!)

From the top, going clockwise, we have corn bread, some sort of multi-grain roll, some sort of flat bread and pita bread, hummus, and some sort of salad stuff (I don't remember what that is!). As you'll see, since it was on our plates all the time, Brittany and I LOVED the corn bread muffins. We like our corn bread sweet, and this was just perfect. I personally love the texture of cornbread but don't like it if it just tastes like corn meal. They were so yummy! Brittany loved the hummus and pita bread.

Brittany's second plate.

I'm trying to look at this plate and remember what's on it, but I just can't remember it all. There's rotisserie chicken, green beans, there's salmon on the right with some tomato/salsa looking stuff on it, several kinds of rice stuff and shrimp. The only thing I remember her disliking is the shrimp. It was part of a seafood dish that had salmon and scallops, and the shrimp sort of "absorbed" the fishy taste. The green beans are amazing and so is the chicken.

My first plate: From the top going clockwise: Multi-grain roll, potato wedges, rotisserie chicken, green beans, little pasta ball things, Casaer Salad, cornbread muffin (YUM) and a rice/feta cheese/spinach/tomato dish.

I loved everything on this plate. The stand out for me was the rice/feta cheese stuff. This is SO GOOD. It's very light, but I just love feta cheese and the combination with the spinach and tomato just a made a great side dish. I wish I could make this at home!

My second dish: Cornbread muffin, more rice/feta cheese/spinach stuff, more potato wedges, mac and cheese from the kids station, and a veggie semosa.

So I don't every really like semosas so I wasn't crazy about it. Brittany took a bite and commented that it didn't taste like a normal one should. Of course I loved the rice stuff. Mac and cheese was just meh.

On to the dessert plates!

Brittany's (sorry for the bad pic). From top, going clockwise: Baklava, strawberry mousse in chocolate cup, lemon bar, molten chocolate cake, bread pudding, huge brownie, carrot cake, some thing I don't remember, magic cookie bar (I think that's what it's called? :confused3 )

My plate: From top, going clockwise (many repeats): Chocolate chip cookie, strawberry mousse, carrot cake, bread pudding, cherry crumble, molten chocolate cake, lemon bar, passion fruit tart, brownie.

Together, I'm pretty sure we covered all the desserts they offered!
The bad: The strawberry mouse tasted like "soap" according to Brittany. It had no flavor. The bread pudding was just okay. The molten chocolate cake was overdone so they were like hockey pucks, no good.
The good: The chocolate chip cookie was, well, a chocolate chip cookie. It was soft though. The cherry crumble was like pie filling with crumble but I liked it.
The wonderful: The little carrot cake bite was so yummy! I also loved the brownie and the lemon bar (I love tart lemon desserts and this was just perfect!) I also liked the passion fruit tart. I thought it was unique.

Overall, we had a wonderful time at Tusker House. I would recommend it to ANYONE eating at the Animal Kingdom. We did have a little hiccup in the meal, when our waitress accidently switched our bill with the woman and two kids next to us. She was freaking out, mainly because she was afraid MY tip had gone onto her room bill (my tip was much larger, but we won't get into that for fear of the wrath of moderators ;) ). Brittany and I just sat in the near-empty restaurant until it was straightened out, letting out full tummies digest.

By the time we left, it was well past 6 and the park was empty. We had a magical moment when all these animal crossed our path at once (birds, and even a little rabbit family!). It was so fun. We also got a bus ride to POFQ by ourselves with a funny and charming bus driver.

All in all, it was a magical day at the Animal Kingdom!

This is my last review post! :sad1:

Let me start out by saying that I've had a blast writing these reviews, and I recommend it to anyone with future plans of traveling to Disney World. First, it's fun to interact with all of you, and it also gives me a good excuse to keep coming to the DIS boards after my trip is over! I don't have a Disney trip planned for the near (or distant) future, but I think you'll see me around. It's been a month to the day (I left February 21) since my trip, and I just keep thinking: MAN that was an awesome trip! :yay:

So until next time folks, enjoy the last of my foodie pics!

Our last breakfast of the trip was the day before we departed. We went to the Magic Kingdom that day. Before we left, we got a little Sassagoula!

Brittany got a Mickey waffle with bacon. Her drinks were milk and an OJ.

I got a Mickey Waffle with fruit, OJ, and water bottle.

I miss these waffles!

For lunch we went to Pinocchio Haus.

I got the cheese pizza (it comes with a side salad). Brittany got the 6 chicken nuggets with fries. We both got the strawberry cheesecake for dessert.

Once again, the pizza is pretty run-of-the-mill, much like that at Pizzafari. Brittany liked the nuggets and fries (I love Disney fries!). The cheesecake wasn't bad either.

We actually had reservations at Capn Jack's at Downtown Disney, but about halfway through our Magic Kingdom day, I just felt SICK  . I was getting a cold (That would last the entire week AFTER my trip), and I felt queasy and achy all day. If I can put my sickness in perspective: We were over at Big Thunder Mountain around 3:00 to use our fastpasses. Because of the parade, after we got off BTM, there was a 5 min. wait for Splash Mountain! I was so sick, I told Brittany I just couldn't ride it! To think of this now, I just want to cry! I'd give a lot to ride Splash Mountain RIGHT NOW! Oh well.

Since we did not eat at Capt Jacks, Brittany ate dinner at Sassagoula (I have no idea what she got). As a result, we left with an extra meal still left on our plan!

And there you have it folks. We've come full circle. Good luck on planning your next Disney trip!

I'll see you all around. :surfweb: Thanks for reading!

Great job! I really enjoyed all your reviews and loved all the pictures. This board is a great one. So much so that I'm considering trying to do a report myself when we're down there (3 weeks from today!!!). However, I am a little unsure that my husband and two teenage boys would put up with all the food picture-taking! Guess I'll just have to play it by ear ;)

THANK YOU for the great report!!
