How do you request a room?

Seems like a lot of people request certain rooms or at least rooms with certain amenities such as bed configurations or views etc.

When would you normally request something like this -- upon check-in or before? And do you call the hotel directly or go thru the company you booked your trip with?

Twice I've called the GCH directly 2-3 days ahead of check-in to request a specific location for my view room and got exactly what I wanted. I had heard that that was typically about when rooms were assigned. I think it's a good idea to put the request on your reservation as well (through your TA if you have one).

I always call directly and request what kind of room I want when I make my reservation. Then I'll call a few days before I go and check, plus when I check in at the hotel I will mention it again. Except when I've been upgraded, I've received what I've requested.

Good idea to request a few days before arriving and further out if you have the chance and hope you get what you want.

I booked a "standard" view -- what are my options? What would you request?

A standard view at the GCH can be either a city view or a courtyard view. I would go with the courtyard view, it's pretty quiet and the monorail passes through there. It is very surprising how quiet that monorail is. I've had a city view, and it wasn't bad, I watched the valet parkers, but I really prefer the courtyard view. Make sure you ask ahead for the courtyard or you will get a city view.

Thanks betty! I like the idea of the courtyard (quiet) view. Any chance that our room might be closer to the main entrances? I have heard how looooooooong the hallways are at GC and how far the rooms seem to be....just wondering what the best way to work with that is.

When we stayed here in May, we had a standard view that was a city view. We were on the very end and I think we got pretty lucky. Below is the view from our room, plus it was close to the elevators and main stairs. The trees that were right in front of our room made it more seculded, and we never heard the monorail unless we had our patio door open. I would agree the courtyard views would be great, but we were pretty happy with ours :goodvibes
