I just read a post how a DVC member booked one night on cash and 7 nights with points

just wondering how this works--since we own a small contract and always borrow points--weve only been members for 4 years but like going once a year for a week

but this means we have to borrow points every year and soon well be out of points

so this got me thinking if we could book our week using points for most of the time and paying cash for maybe a night or 2 just so we don't have to borrow

or is this something we can only do at the 7 months when you can buy the one use points

this would really help us out so much

thanks all

Call MS and see if they have inventory. They don't always. It can be done before 7 months.

You also might get a better rate booking thru Disney reservations vs DVC. It's best to check both.

As far as helping out point shortages you could also rent a reservation one year or get a good sized point transfer from another member that will get you caught up and maybe a few excess points.

You can call MS for cash availability, discount is usually 25% off rack rate (note that certain rooms, for certain BWV BW & Standard views, are excluded from any cash bookings). Also check DRC for any general public, Disney Visa, AP holder, etc discounts.

If you book your single night on cash through MS and it is the same booking category as your points reservation, you might be able to link the two. There are some booking categories that you cannot book for cash. And some that are called different things by Disney Reservation Center. Plus if you book through DRC, you won't be able to link the reservations so you don't need to check out and check in again. You will have to check out and check in and you may have to move.

You can always purchase one time use points at seven months out from MS if you need 24 or fewer for $19 a point.

ok sounds great so if Im reading this right--for ex we are staying at the POLY our home resort--if wed like to add an extra night so not to borrow any more points I can call MS and see if theres any rooms open

could I also check the DVC website and if it shows anything open then call MS for a cash night

this coming year will be our 4th trip since joining and all of a sudden things are coming into place how I can do things and not have to always borrow points

thanks so much for the tips

No, the member website will not give you any idea about cash availability. You just have to call and ask MS.

At the Poly we added a cash night for my sister to go along with a points booking for her but I did that thru CRO instead. The discount offered at that time thru CRO was better than the 25% discount off of rack rates that MS offers so that's why you want to compare at least if Disney has the room available for the night(s) your looking at. And they might have availability where MS does not have cash availability. At the resort I just spoke with the front desk to assure they kept her in the same room.

Cash nights are totally different from points nights. They might have a cash night available or not. If they do, ask if you can get the 25% discount because it's not always available.
