How do you organize your recipes?

I could never use the index cards because they're too small. Do you have some type of organizer? Do you put them in a binder? I need to organize mine somehow, but I'm not sure which would be the easiest way to do it. Just looking for some ideas.

I used to do them in a three ring binder with those removable plastic sleeves that keep the paper protected. Now I keep my recipes on the computer. I guess that is sort of a waste of ink, but I just don't like clutter and I really don't have enough that I don't already have memorized. I that rare ocassion I want a special recipe, I don't mind pulling it up on the computer and printing it out.

What program did you use?

A friend of mine uses a photo album with the little pockets. She put tab markers to show the different sections. Recipe cards just slide into the pages.

I use a rolodex. The cards are tiny, but it's so easy to take them out and move them around in the sections.

I put mine in a full sized photo album with the self-adhesive pages. I broke down the catalog in categories with binder dividers (chicken, fish, veggie dishes, etc.). Depending on the size of the recipe, some pages have one recipe, others have multiple. If I cut a recipe out of a magazine, I don't waste my time re-copying it, I just stick it in a page. The nice thing about using the binder type album, is that you can remove just the page you need, and prop it up on the counter. The plastic coating also wipes clean, if you are a messy cook, like me. :teeth:

Well now I will look stupid for not having some fancy program like my mil, but I just use word and have my recipe folder.

::yes:: Works for me!!!

Cut, torn out recipes shoved in my cookbooks, usually :rotfl: :rotfl:

I used to use Master Cook software, but now just store them in folders with protective plastic sleeves. A lot easier than to always print out the recipe.

I've gotten some good ideas so far...bumping for more.

I have a recipe box. My recipes are not organized yet...I'm hoping to transfer all recipes to the index cards and file. That may be a good rainy day or winter project!

I keep mine in a three ring binder in those plastic sheets. Works well for wiping spilled ingredients off. I just recently did this.

I typed them into Word files or just printed them full size off the website I found them on.

I forgot to mention that one reason I like the Rolodex is that I can carry several cards in the pocket of my purse. That way, when I am at the doctor's office and I see a recipe I can copy it directly the the cards I use.

Man, you are organized, aren't you? I would've never thought of doing that. :rotfl: That's a great idea.

I laminate mine! It works better than better ;) I keep them in a 3 ring binder in categories...main dishes, desserts, crock pot, christmas recipes, etc.

I have a laminator at work and you can call me the laminator queen :rotfl: I like this way so much better than the photo pages because it ends up being so much thinner when you laminate.

Hmmm. You have me considering laminating rolodex cards. ;)
