How do you mark your kids?

What do you do to identify your kids in case they get lost? This will be my first time with DGD 2 1/2 . She's a little go getter. DGS 5 is no problem, him and I go all the time. My DIL was going to write her name and my phone # on her arm then cover it with liquid band aid. I was thinking a landyard type thing with her name, my name and my cel #.

We get one of the big buttons from City Hall (or CM's in shops have them too). I take a Sharpie and write our names and my cell # on the back. The CM's are actually trained to check a button for info.

Yep, do the buttons from City Hall, get her a first visit button, and the buttons are free....nothing wrong with free.

Edited: took out the part about CM's being trained to look at the back of the buttons due to the CM on page 2 saying that wasn't true. It is true that they know information is put on those buttons by a lot of parents and they would ask the child to show them instead of actually touching the child. Its all in the wording I guess.

Our first trip we did cute leather bracelets I got on Etsy. Not too expensive but they snap was terrible and it didn't stay on.

I like the sharpie on the back of a button idea but don't want to fuss with a button on their clothes. Yes, I am lazy.

I ordered one inch round ID tags from gotags.com. Fit name, bday, phone number. We attached them to their shoelace and tucked them in so they weren't distracting. The kids knew to show it to a CM if they got lost. They are metal, so we reuse them each time we go.

I ordered bead bracelets from etsy with our phone number. They had little Mickey charms on them.

Pet stores have machines where you can print off a dog tag. You can get them in different shapes, so it will look like a charm instead of a dog tag. Then they can wear it as a necklace or safety pin it onto her shirt or shoe lace.

I can't recommend these enough. We have used other items in the past, and they all don't hold up. These ID's are super good quality, and the customer service is beyond amazing. You can put on the ID names, phone numbers, and special info like the fact my DD has asthma, and that my DH is allergic to penicillins. Seriously, get these.

Ours actually came in handy once. We were in DL, near the exit from POTC. We started walking toward Splash Mnt. Everyone, except my DS, started walking. By the time we got to the Haunted Mansion, we noticed he wasn't with us. Of course mommy panic sets in. I started running back to where we had come from, as my cell started ringing. My DS had walked up to the cart that sells the cute decorated parasols, told the CM he couldn't find his mommy, and showed her the bracelet. She called me, we were reunited without incident. Kids can remember their street address and home phone number, but not many know their parent's cell. And when they are freaked out and lost, it's that much harder to remember. I have always taught my children that if they are lost in DLR, find a grownup with a name tag. ALL DLR CM's wear them. You can get help from them.

A few years ago I went to a party store and bought a pack of something like 500 neon-colored wristbands for about $3. They are the kind that you see at nightclubs, concerts, Mickey's Halloween Party, etc. They sell them just blank at the party store, so we just take a Sharpie and put our names and cell numbers on them. Even though they are made of some sort of paper-like substance, they are really tough and hold up well. So far they have worked great (though we haven't lost anyone yet, thank goodness!)

I'm actually planning on using them on our next cruise for my husband's grandmother. We'll write my DMIL's name and cabin number on them, so they can contact her if Grandma gets lost. She's 90 and has dementia, so we're more worried about losing her than we usually are about the kids!

Our last trip we saw a kid we are sure will never get lost: she was on a leash and her mom's cell number was written up her arm in black Sharpie. My personal favorite is the Modern Family method.

Saw this twice now in this thread so had to respond. I'm a CM and I have never been trained to look at the back of a button for information. We are actually trained to try and have as little physical contact with the child as possible and to either get the child to hand us or tell us the information (or show the tattoo back of button etc) but we are instructed never to "search" for info. Imagine what someone could do and then cover it up by saying I was searching for parent contact info.

The best methods I have ever come across dealing with lost children at Disney was children who knew exactly who was safe to come to (any CM with a name tag on that has the castle and Walt Disney World on it guest bough ones don't have that on it.) and children who were given a card either in a lanyard or in their pocket that says hi my name is _____ my adult is -------I need help. My adult can be reached at -----. Also putting hotel information is also good so that if it is too long with out the adult we can call the hotel and alert them as well. You wouldn't imagine how many midget left at a park because eom assumes they were with dad and dad assumes they were with mom,
