How do you make your avatar under 4kb

I'm a little frustrated trying to crate a custom avatar on this board. I've resized an image to 100x100 pixels and then lowered the quality all the way and still can't get there. What an I missing? Thanks!

EXIF Data takes space- Save for web.

Irfanview has an option now to save to a specific file size. Like Gdad said though, it's almost certainly metadata like exif, iptc, etc. Irfanview also lets you uncheck those when you save an image - those should get your image down where you need it to be.

I had to live on nothing but fish oil lettuce for a week before mine would fit. Also, it helps if you don't smile. Teeth take up a lot of space. I think that is because white is a bigger number than black. Finally, it helps to pay no attention to what I write.

I've got the save for web thing down, but now how do I make it look good? I posted this on the tech board, but didn't get a reply over there and I know you all are smarter anyways, so I'll ask here.....

I saved it as a low res jpeg and the IQ pretty much stinks. How do I get it all pretty again?

I have no idea- MY avatar looks much better in LOW resolution. If I could figure out how to get the resolution to zero I think it would be perfect.
