How do you keep your young kids up for the "late night" fireworks and parades?

We'll be going in June and all the great late stuff is at 9 - 10:30pm. We'll be doing the mid day breaks but wondering what works for you to keep them awake and happy that long. My DS's are 2 and 5...sleeping usually by 8pm. Maybe with all the excitement they'll be wide awake till midnight!!!

as much as I love the MK fireworks and Illuminations I don't want to screw up my 2 1/2 yr DD's schedule any more than necessary. I figure it would just be too late by the time we got back to the hotel & got her into bed. :( But I know she will enjoy lots of other things so she won't even know what she's missing.

You might check the Fantasmic schedule. I'm guessing that in June they might have 2 shows and the first might be early enough. I'm hoping in October the probable 7:30 show will work for us.

Have fun!!
Meredith

I have a 5yo and she can usually get by without napping, but I am planning some down time during the day so on certain nights she can enjoy the fireworks.

We didn't do a park that morning, we only did quiet activities, like a character breakfast, a dip in the pool and an afternoon nap--she was fine until about midnight when she fell asleep in her stroller. Just make sure to have a stroller ;)

Have a Wonderful day, Eeyore

Mine are 4 and 7. They can stay up until 9 witout a problem, even though they are up at 6:00am weekdays. They don't nap. However, I have no idea how they are going to handle days on end of theme parks. My plan is to not tell them about the fireworks. That way, they won't be disappointed if they miss them. We'll try to keep them out doing something active and fun that evening after supper - maybe in a park or maybe not - but something so they don't get a chance to start winding down. If they look energetic enough by the time we need to head to the fireworks, we'll go. I'll probably end up getting specially interesting junk food around then, to keep them interested and awake. If however they are getting sleepy/cranky in the evening, we'll skip it.

Naps and late night sugar! ;)
