Help!
I've been doing Body for Life for almost 6 weeks now and had been doing SO great--I didn't miss a single workout and had been eating almost entirely according to plan!

Then came yesterday. It was just one of those bad and cranky days; everything was going wrong. I did my workout in the morning, but by evening I was eating everything in sight.
I told myself I'd get back on track today, and I did--till I had people over for dinner tonight, and I went hog wild. Plus, I skipped my workout. WHY did I sabotage myself like this?

I know a day of overeating won't spoil all my hard work up to this point, but knowing myself as I do, I'm afraid that tomorrow and the next day and the next I will just keep cheating because I already "blew it" like this. Can anyone give me some tips to help me keep this short-term slip-up from turning into a long-term slide? :( Thank you!!

Janet

Two words: move on.

"So you went off the road for one day, no biggie, I'll re-start my healthy way of life right now." That's usually what I tell myself, and for me it works. (But it's not so simple as it sounds ;) )

You can do it happymommy!!! The important thing is to get back on track fast and as if nothing has happened. :)

This may sound really weird, but this is how I keep a slip-up from becoming a slide. I draw a big purple smiley face on the calendar for each day I do well. If I do medium, I draw a face with a flat mouth, if I do bad, I draw a big, black, ugly sad face. I know I don't want to have to draw a sad face, so I just look at the calendar and think thin thoughts  so I get to draw my purple smiley face. It works for me. So far this month I only have one black ugly sad face, one flat face and the rest are happy! It really keeps it in perspective that one day of goofing is not too bad, but if they keep piling up then I'm in trouble.

I know that once I post on this board that I have not done well, it seems to give me the kick I need. I really had some back sliding with Easter, but once I admitted it to myself and posted here I felt better and got back on track.
I know it seems simple, but just reading the posts here and realizing that we are all human, we make mistakes makes me get going.
We are all going to slip up now and then, but once we over come the feeling of guilt, we do get back on track and continue with the good habits that will hopefully become a part of our life.

Not that I should be one to give advice but.....I went to WDW for Easter break & brought back 8 lbs with me as a souvenir! Anyway, we returned late Saturday night & I went right back on my WW plan on Sunday. I just wonder, don't you feel better & more energetic when you follow your healthy plan? That alone brought me back to following WW & going back to Curves....since I feel so much better & have lots more energy when I stick to 'the plan.' Hope that will motivate you enough to just put the past behind you or those extra pounds will be on your behind! :teeth: ;)

Thank you all SOOOO much for the words of encouragement. With your help I have indeed gotten right back "onto the wagon" after my little slip! It's nice for me to see that I can actually do that successfully! :)

Harely Chick, thanks for the smiley face idea--I've started doing that and I think that'll be a great motivator for me. Isn't it funny how those little things can really help?

Thanks again,
Janet

BFL -- that's a great program especially for the muscle building

sounds like you are back on track. my thoughts were the same as others -- forgive yourself and move on. you are human, we have all been there. I know I have.

have you read Dr. Phils book? it has some really great insight and points on the thinking part of overeating. I have been listening to it on CD and I'm driving and nodding my head and going "yes, that's me".

it's sooooo hard to get back on track. there are days when I think "i just wan to eat and not think about it" but in truth I have a sugar addiction and I don't have that luxury anymore. someday I will have it so under control I won't have to think about it. but for now, I must

kudos to you for getting back OP:smooth: :wave2:

Are you doing better today? Don't worry about the past, sweetie. You can't change the past so don't waste your life feeling guilty about it. Just focus on today.

How are you doing today?
