How do you get your yard so nice and green?

Ours look awful - light green and bare spots!

Scotts Turfbuilder fertilzer. In the winter we use Scotts Winterguard. I swear by this stuff! It's simple to apply and my grass is a beautiful green all year long! Check out Scotts.com.

My yard is a disaster.....my neighbors is perfect. I'm going to do everything Scott's this year in hopes that I can try to get some sort of real grass to grow. I have patches of every weed and grass you can imagine...YUCK!!!!

Seriously use the Scott's site for your area and follow it to the letter.
Priorities are proper timing of fertilizers, weed killers, and bug killers.

You also have to water the lawn as well, have a set schedule.
Installing a sprinkler system is key if you want to maintain watering with no hassle.

Once your lawn becomes healthy you just need to fertilize and water, with some insect control thrown in, for a lush green lawn.

If I started watering our yard on a weekly basis - is that enough? How long do I need to water it?

Scotts. They come and take care of the fertilizer and everything. I love it! Our grass has never looked better!

They also let us know if we have been overwatering ( easy to do here we're on irrigation and its free so we set the timer and it does its own thing)
or underwatering and leave us little guides on what we can do to make it better. Couldnt be easier!

Our neighbours always accuse us of having the yard spray painted. :)

Depends on the where you live. Where I live it's warm. I don't water when it rains (obviously) and in the winter I water once a week. In warmer weather (70-80's) I water 4 times a week. In the summer, we water every day.

I am not from Nebraska so it is hard for me to say...You need to identify the grass you have and then look up how much water needs are for your grass.

Watering is measured in inches, so you put a rain gauge out where your sprinkler is set and then measure how long it takes to deliver a set amount of inches. That will give you a clue as to how long.
Every sprinkler & water pressure will vary for your home so you have to do some homework.

You talking about that little tuft on the left hand side about three feet from the front step?

What she said. The stuff really works. Ours never changed color all winter and is growing big time now.

We airrate (or some such spelling of a word that sounds like that) every year and fertalize in the spring. DH takes a lot of pains with the grass. He doesn't like to fool with bushes and flowers too much but the grass always looks great!
