How do you get purple for WOC? How wet do you get in the front of red and yellow?

I have read all the threads I can find about WOC and no mention of how exactly one gets the purple area. Does anyone know? I called VP and asked and they did not know and there was no way to buy VIP purple.

For those who have been, did you see people in there? Did they sneak in from preferred? Is it a tiny area? It looks pretty good sized on the map but how can it have a VIP view if everyone is standing in front of that area. Is purple elevated?

I might just pack ponchos for us and try for the front wet area. How wet do you get? Soaking? Shoes wet? Pants wet? or would a plastic rain poncho keep you dry enough? Does the mist interfere with viewing as in you have to close your eyes? Can you come to the wet areas late and still find a decent spot at the rail because so few people want to get wet?

It seems to be the luck of the draw whether or not you can actually see the show no matter what color you get or how much you pay for either the preferred dining, the picnic or getting an early fastpass. My dd and her friend are 10 and short, I'm short and I don't want to shell out $200+ for a meal if we still won't be able to see. Ds and Dh are tall but none of us can hold up 10 year olds to see.

I don't think that VIP area is elevated. I just think the best view is from the back. It's also less crowded, you can arrive late, and you can come and go easily. My advice is skip the expensive meal, show up at 9 and stand in the back. At best, you see most of the show fine. At worst, you go do TSMM with short lines instead.

The wet zones can be very wet or not wet at all, I think. The fountains don't spray into the crowds like Shamu does. They just put up a mist and if the wind is right it carries it right into the crowd. It just depends. Just based on my dry experience in the front row of a wet zone, and what the CMs said.

DD (9) and I saw the show from the front railing of the yellow section on Sunday.

We did get wet. Not soaked to the bone wet but our hair/hoods were wet. We were able to wring water out of both.

There is no sudden down pour or splash like on a water ride instead there is a pretty consistent mist. At times I did have to turn my head as it got to be a bit much for me.

A lot of this has to do with how high the water went and the wind. The higher the water projection - well the more water to come our way. SInce there was a steady breeze -- well that just help the water in our direction.

It wasn't unpleasant but we were both happy to take our coats off in the car on the way home.

Thanks for your replies!

Wow, Tinkerbelle's Mom, if you were wringing stuff out, that is really wet in my book! Where exactly were you standing?

Mary09, Where were you standing that you didn't get wet in the wet zone? I know that many people are saying to view from the back but I am sure my short dd would not be able to see and I've read you can't see the preshow (that has Tigger? her 2nd favorite after Pooh.)

I understand it depends on the wind, etc.. but just wondering if it has to do with places too.

So did anyone see people in purple? Know how to get those tickets?

Right now, I am leaning toward bringing ponchos and getting in the wet section. We are staying at GCH so we could pop in and change clothes. I just can't have them get wet shoes!

The black line is the exact centerline for the show.

To get a good view at the rail, you need to arrive at the entrance que before 7:00 for the 9:00pm show, and fight the crowd to the good spots.

VIP Section: :confused3 To stand at the back of the VIP section on the top tier you need to know a bigwig at DLR and have your name added to the "list", They are not sold. To sit on a bench you need to be a big enough Celiberty to have your own personal "Plaid" escort. It is well monitered by several Sr. Staff and is completly seperate from the other sections.

Yellow Section: The wet zone is in the center. the sides towards the center are very good, however the first and third tiers towards the center are reserved for Handicapped only. All yellow is good, the further back and towards the center the better.

Red Section: The only good view is the lower tier near the center in the Wet Zone. The edge towards the center fills up very early and give you an OK view.

Blue Section: Fills up very quickly and the best view is the top tier next to the VIP section. Or fight the early crowd and get the lower front row rail.

Reserved Section: (Buy a $40 dinner) fills out a little slower, but the front center is small and fills up early. The third tier below VIP is a great view (Just below the VIP section). The stairs are OK, but many late arriving Yellow section "Guests" after arguing with the cast members overrun the cast and invade the "Reserved" section.

The later shows are a little less problem, but for the 10:15 show you need to line up an hour or more early. They have seperate areas for each color to line up in, rather than a mass mob for the 9:00. The 11;15 is much less crowded but the earlier the better, and there is no Prefered section (It becomes Blue).

The wet zone is a heavy drizzle to a soaking depending on the wind.

The closer to the black line the better.

Good luck!

We stood in the very lowest, most centerstage part of the blue section. Imagine you walked in there first. We didn't get wet at all. It was at times like being on a restaurant patio with a mist system, but it was mild at most. Not even a heavy drizzle. We got there about 7:20. The wet zone didn't fill up fast.

You can buy ponchos for 50 cents at a dollar store. They're mostly just hooded trash bags but they're easy to carry and toss out. Ours were in the hotel when we sat in the wet zone but we were glad we didn't bother with them since we didn't get wet. I too figured a walk back to the hotel (on Harbor) wet wouldn't kill anyone and we'd be done for the night anyway. I didn't even think of wet shoes! Smart you!

The pre-show was about 15 minutes of one hostess leading a little section-against-section song. There were about 4 characters walking through their respective sections. The costumes were like large, lighted marionettes of a sort and were kind of interesting to see. But the pre-show itself was pretty ho hum if you ask me. There was a Tigger, Lumiere, Mike W from Monsters, Sebastian, Genie, that might be all.

We stood in what the above image shows as Yellow, third tier -- but that was preferred dining back on June 15th, so not sure if things have changed?

Thanks again for all of your replies!

Disneyland1951, You should make your post a sticky! Thanks for all the great info. At least I can give up the idea of ever buying a purple-lol. Still not sure of what to do-ugh. Debating buying the AG or WCT meal now since it seems like that area doesn't involve as much of a mob scene ie:"fills out a little slower"

We are just not good at mob scenes! The only advantage we have right now is staying at GCH and getting fastpasses early.

Can you get fastpasses on the same day for more than one show? I know that you would have to "watch" and see when the shows change but is there any way for them to see that you already had a ticket? We could get an early show and if I can't handle the crowds, try again for the later 10:30 show. I would love to just come to the latest show but I don't think the 10 year olds would make it that late.

Mary09, It seems to me that you were incredibly lucky to get the spot you did. I would love to get that area but now that people are learning the ins and outs, you would have to line up very early AND be prepared to push your way through the mob. Not gonna happen for us-too chicken-lol.

We have ponchos though. I have to carry them for Splash! Yep, the girls love the ride but they don't want to get wet and with big Dh, our log always floods. I have the ones that fold up teeny tiny so it's not a big deal to carry.

Do the characters stand on those boxes I can see along the water for the preshow? Or do they really try to walk around through the sections of standing people?

It was just last Thurs. that we had no competition for those wet zone spots. I think it just depends on the crowd. People tend to follow, y'know? If they see no one going into the wet zone they assume it's a bad place to be. We got there at 7:20 and there was no rushing or shoving. Everyone was very calm and polite. I think we took a spot on the dry level above and then decided to move down a moment later. The CM selling ponchos acted like we'd be doused in there, but one other CM I asked did say it just depended on the wind.

The characters don't get on the boxes, I don't think. They just walk through the crowds with some escorts. You can probably see the costumes on Youtube. Most of it is over the person's head that's wearing it, so it's very visible and able to be in the crowd. They control the arms with sticks. The rest of it is just kinda hanging out up there.

Nope. None of the Paradise Pier rides are open from 8PM onward.

I rode Toy Stoty durring WOC. I think this is a recent change. Oh I rode during the 10:15 show two weeks ago.

I came back to say thanks for the update - and that I think that decision to not have TSMM is a very bad one and they should have stuck with the original idea to have it open. But now I'm confused again! :rotfl2: That's good news if they have permanently decided to keep it open during the show.

Word is that TSMM does not close during WOC - even though Disney says it does. And that Silly Symphony Swings opens briefly in between shows. I think I saw this on a MiceAge or MousePlanet update this week - and also have seen it reported by lots of folks who have done TSMM after 8PM. :wizard:

No. One FP per day per ticket.

Thanks again Mary, I didn't realize that you were there so recently. That gives me hope-lol! I guess if we do the FP it all depends on what color we get but I think from all the helpful posts, we will skip paying for the meals and take our chances with the FP.

If it is too crowded and we can't stand it, we'll just leave and not be out any money. We are going to try for Wed night so if that doesn't work out, we will still have a couple more nights to try but I imagine Friday would be the worst.

Thanks again for your kindness answering my million questions!

1) The best plan for a great view is to purchase a meal (Not the picnic box that gets you blue or yellow.) and you can arrive at 7:30-7:45 and get spot at the rail just below the VIP section. This section doesn't fill in early!! :yay: There is a good reason for the location of the VIP section - and just below is not filled in early.

2) If you have the blue section you can usually get a spot next to the VIP Section. :cool1:

3) Or, Fight the crowd and get there early, and/or get wet.
Or, Later 11:15 show.:confused3

Very Rough Fastpass distribution times at GRR:
(Be in line 20-30 minutes before the below times)

1st show (9:00pm)
9:00 - 9:50 = Blue
9:50 - 10:15 = Yellow
10:15 - 10:45 = Red / Blue Bridge(?)

2nd Show (10:15pm)
10:45 in the same order:

3rd Show (11:15pm)
1:30 - 2:30 or later

Picnic Box: Blue followed by Yellow(?)

You're welcome. Your plan is what I would do. If you get in line for FP, make sure your whole party is in the park, not just you and their tickets. I think you'll be fine on Wed. night. I like the idea of just heading for the areas around the VIP area. Blue or yellow both are good, so don't feel like you need to stand in line an hour for a FP or get to the area at 7:15 or earlier. The second time I saw the show was last Sat. and the back area in yellow only had a row or two of people, and we were kinda next to that VIP area. We walked back to that area from up closer, so we got there about 9:10. Anyone with a FP could've walked up at 9. I asked the CM at the rope to the street if there was a spot with a better view and she said "You can see fine back here. Check it out." I did and we all agreed and moved back. That's why I'd skip all the waiting and fuss. :)

Even the pre-show ends about 15 minutes before the show, so I'd even skip that, but your kids might like the light-up dudes. You can see them all over Youtube if you did want to see what I was saying about the costumes kinda hover above the crowd. Seeing them walk through is about all there is to the pre-show, unless you like singing "doo bop she doo!" with Perky Miss Emily.

Disneyland 1951, So you DO think it is well worth it to buy the meal? If I follow your instructions and stand where you say, it will be a nice experience?

I will go back and look over the menus again. Also since I called and asked about the 10 year olds paying for the adult meal and getting a kids meal instead and was told no way, I am hearing there is a lot more flexibility and they can get some other stuff to eat too. Someone wrote that their over 10 kid was able to get pasta at WCT with just sauce, no shrimp so that would work for dd.

Honestly, I don't mind paying the extra for less of a mob scene. Heck, we are paying for the fantasmic seats. The dinners for WOC are cheaper and you get some food, not just a box of desserts.

We could also make the reservations and if we get a blue FP(second best), cancel them without having to prepay so that is another option. Hmmm...

What about having 2 fastpasses? Anyone try that yet?
