How do you get a room downgrade?

I'm guessing this is an odd question. We got free dining for early September but it required us to get a pirate themed room at the CBR. We are going to be there from the 7th to the 21st and we are getting married at disney on the 8th. So it would be nice to get a king room or simply a room that isn't out in the middle of nowhere. What's the best way to get a different room? Should we wait till we check in? Should I online check it? Should I call the resort. I figure I'm not asking for an upgrade, so do we have a high change of getting a different room?

You can ask when you get there but since you have a promotion it is less likely to be offered. You definitly won't get any money back for taking the downgrade. I am not sure if the inventory will let them even change you since it is booked under a promotion.

Yea I wouldn't expect money back. In fact I'd pay $10 a night for the room I want

While on paper it's a downgrade in reality it's an upgrade from location to decor. I agree with a promo you probably can't change up front, but I would absolutely ask at checkin and tell them its your honeymoon and ask if there is any way to get a different room.

Thing is, the reason that is the room you could get for the promo is because that was the only room type left in the promo. And it was left because they are the least popular, unfortunately, even though they cost more.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't check continually for cancellations and the chance to change your reservation. I am doing that daily for our Oct reservation in hopes that the resort I really want opens up. We'll make do with what I have booked if it doesn't but it won't stop me from checking. Super easy with the "Change Reservation" feature on MDE (if yours is working, sometimes they don't). If yours doesn't work, just call them. Not quite as easy.

But, I wouldn't expect to ask for and get a different room at check in. I'd resign myself to the Pirate room. If you get something else, great. Just don't expect it. I'd still ask though. Can't hurt.

I've been calling a couple of times a week trying to get upgraded to a Pirate room. Every time I've been told there's no availability - at least with my current discount - and just to keep calling to see if anything opens up. I was told to try closer to the 45-day and 30-day mark when most people cancel. Good luck!
