How do you deal with your DH's snoring???

Good grief, I can't take it anymore! I've confined myself to the couch the past couple of weeks and I still find myself awakening to the sounds of his snoring in the next room. He has a deviated septum and is dead set against surgery, but NOTHING is working. I am becoming increasingly b****y the more I'm woken up at night. I can't tell you the last time I slept through the night. I wouldn't mind if it was just a regular, stuffy nose snore, but this is OBNOXIOUS. It sounds like he's trying to suck his uvula out through his nose. You know what his solution was? To buy earplugs. Thanks, honey! :rotfl2:

I made my DH go have a sleep study--he now wears a CPAP machine--he sleeps better & I can actually sleep--I can sympathize with you.

Mine keeps saying he will do this, but is discouraged because all he has heard from others who have it is that it's noisy and takes awhile to adjust to, but the person sleeping with them never adjusts to the noise. I worry a lot for his apnea; he has gone 20 seconds without breathing before letting out a giant snore. Now he just woke himself up talking :lmao:

Well, once in a while I'll elbow him, and if that doesn't work, I pinch him. If THAT doesn't work, then I kick him in the shin.

:rotfl2:

Did I just say that out loud?

God help me, I need to confess. I do this too. A lot. If it gets out of control I kick him and then pretend to be asleep when he wakes up panicked asking what happened. :rolleyes1 I will say though, I get punished for it. Last night I got so aggravated in the middle of the night I banged the living room wall to get him to shut up in the next room. Today I woke up with a sore, swollen hand. :lmao:

I kick my Dh when it gets too loud. But he works nights, everyday usually. So I hardly ever have to hear it. Have you tried the breathright strips? Ive heard they work.

YES. They did a big ol' nothin'...I wish they did, I'd buy stock in them.

OMG ... he needs to get a sleep study ... tell him to quit whining and suck it up and go to the freakin' doctor :lmao:

Seriously ... whatever he's worried about is probably not going to be a big deal, take it from a converted cpap user! A) The machines are not "noisy" (just a gentle rush of air), b) he'll get used to wearing them (esp. since he'll be so deeply and wonderfully in dreamland for the first time in his life ...!) and c) the sleeping partner (you) will have a lot less trouble with the gentle noise of the cpap machine than she has with the horiffic snoring!

PM me and I'll sing the praises ... heck, I'll call him and convince him myself, LOL.

My life has been completely transformed since starting cpap. It can be a little bit annoying, but nothing compared to my poor quality of life before. And I don't even want to get started on the scary scary statistics about what happens healthwise to people with untreated apnea!!!

My DH would never wear a cpap. It doesn't help that his dad is the same kind of horrible snorer, went for a sleep study and then promptly refused to use the cpap. I think his mom uses Tylenol PM as her coping mechanism.
As for me, most of the time it doesn't bother me but there have been nights where I've tried to smother him with a pillow just to make him shut up. He'll sleep right through poking and kicking.

I cannot BELIEVE I am going to admit this but I am the snorer in our family. Yup...and a drooler! It's not real bad but hubby caught it on tape to prove it.

I actually went for the ear plugs...and they work so well...I now get a blissful night's sleep and dh doesn't get woken up by me pushing him into a different position 12 times a night. Much better for all concerned! :thumbsup2

:happytv: I'm the drooler, he's the snorer. We're a match made in heaven. I think every woman is in some form of denial about her sleep habits! I still have the tape I made of Joe snoring. He thought it was hilarious, everyone else was horrified. The noises he makes don't sound human. :rotfl2:

What kind of ear plugs?

He's a big baby, that's for sure. I'm going to show him this post tomorrow. Hopefully your opinion will help sway him. I work with a lot of patients on bipap and cpap, the noise is more than manageable. In fact, I find white noise soothing to fall asleep to. As a cpap user yourself I'm sure you can attest that he won't know real sleep until he corrects his snoring.

Oh God, Tylenol PM? Where? Give me the drugs!!! I don't understand how they can sleep RIGHT through it. He tells me I'm trying to listen for it.

My DH has always snored, and it used to not be a problem. Lately, it has gotten worse - think shake the bed loud. MAJOR PITA for me, but two nights ago I noticed that he would stop breathing which flipped me out. I told him that he could either call and make the appointment or I would. He did, and I'm hoping this will be resolved.

I have pointy elbows, and a swift shot to his back wouldn't stop the snoring, but it always made me feel better. :lmao:

Who knew one quick jab could release so much tension? :confused3 Good luck to your DH, I hope they resolve his problem quickly.

This is so funny, because as I sit here in the computer room on the first floor, that's all I can hear from the monitor is his LOUD snoring!

I bought him the spray for his throat, which does not stop the snoring, but makes it less noisy. The breath right strips did nothing. BUT, it is because he snores from the throat... he drinks a ton of milk before bed,and everyone says that is a culprit, as well as it gets louder the more weight he gains!

So, before we had kids I would wear earplugs and it was pure heaven!!!! I got to a point where I could not sleep anywhere without them, and I woke so much more rested!!!! But now that we have kids, and I am the only one that wakes when they fuss, or when the dog needs to go out at 3AM, I can't wear them anymore.

Usually I leave it to the 5 year old who hits dad and says, "dad....too loud!" Good luck all! It is almost ten to 1AM here, and I am going to try to shut him up until I get to sleep!!!!! Good night! ;)
