How do you choose your Perfect Wand at Ollivanders? I am a big fan of Harry Potter and do plan on buying a wand. We are planning a family trip and with us is my grandson, 8 yrs. old, he is not into Harry Potter. I know once he sees me with a wand, he will want to buy one too. So how do you choose your Perfect Wand at Ollivanders?

There are a couple ways you can do this. You can go to the wand show and see if you get picked.
If you are not picked, I would suggest going to Ollivanders and ask for assistance. They used to do it by birth date. But now they do it by your personality if you want a non character one. Read the wand description and pick the one that is closest to your personality. I went to the Diagon Alley and the TMs were really great about helping me.

You could also pick a characters wand if you want.

If they're not into Harry Potter I'm guessing they probably aren't worried about a specific characters wand. I'd recommend just browsing and looking at them and see what jumps out to him that he likes the looks of. As kbelle8995 mentioned, the non character wands do give descriptions that talk about personality types that you could use. I personally just went with one that I liked the look of and felt suited me best based on its appearance.

I didn't
My wand chose me, as all proper wands do
In my case, I was chosen in the wand ceremony on my first visit
Same with my Granddaughter when we brought her the next year

Had I not been I would have walked around and looked at the wands and picked the one that "spoke" to me. That's the same, in my book, as picking the wand the chose me.

I do have a character one due to the fact that I liked the look of it. With this huge pink crystal on it. It screamed me from across the room. I have three of them. Each different.

Two of the them are from Fantastic beasts because I just liked the look of them. I thought they were pretty. One of my three is a non-character one a birch one. I took it because it just seemed to fit my hand. I have put a end on my wand purchases. No more. I just want a holder so I can show them off.

Once I got my second I finally got a display stand for them. Love the ones with crystal or stuff with them too. My first one was a reed wand from UO and my second is the Locket of Slytherin wand and found it to be the prefect one for me, so good on buying more for now.

Pro tip, when you're approaching Ollivander's send your kids to the lockers to put some stuff away. While they're gone go into the shop and find a kid or two, throw them a couple bucks and instruct them to leave in tears with a limp. When your kids return you tell them that the interactive wands require a toe from the bearer to work. It'll save you a ton of money.
