It is always best for anyone to have their own seat. Much safer.
In the case of turbulance it is difficult to hold a glass of water, much less a baby.
To make the reservations, call your airline, they do have discounted fares for children under two.
Amen to the turbulance thing.
We just got home from Orlando last weekend. Due to going through thunderstorms most of the way, the seat belt sign was on for almost the entire flight. We had some wicked bumps and drops that made it difficult for me to hold on to my laptop! I can't even imagine trying to hold a baby safely.

I have always purchased seats for my kids. Most of the major airlines offer seats for 1/2 price for any children under 24months. It is so much safer this way and much easier too. I believe you have call the airline to purchase an infant fare.
