How do I book FD when we arrive on Aug 23 and it starts the 25th? Long story, but we MUST fly by the 23rd as we have comp airfare that expires. I don't mind only having FD for the last 5 days. Hey, it's better than nothing, right? Do I need to call direct or can I book online? Is this considered a split stay, even though we are not changing resorts? Thanks.

You make a "room only" reservation for the first two nights. You get enough days on your park tickets on the free dining package to cover those first two days. When you arrive for you room only reservation you pick up your tickets from the package early. You won't have free dining those first two days but this will work. I have done it and so have many others.

ETA: book it through a travel agent or with Disney by phone or online. When you arrive for your first reservation tell them you have a continuing reservation. They'll try to keep you in the same room for your second reservation. You'll still have to go to the front desk to check in for the free dining reservation.

As the pp said, you would book room only for the first 2 nights and you can pick up your park tickets from the package early (up to 3 days prior to the start of a package). Keep in mind that you can only access your park tickets early, but your dining plan won't start until you check in for that package. You can book by calling or do it online, whichever is easier for you. Disney does not see it as a split stay, but rather 2 separate reservations. Since you aren't changing resorts, I would put in a request to keep the same room (provided you're booking the same room type). Then when you check in for the room only, tell the CM that you have a continuing reservation and would like to keep the same room if possible. You will have to check out from the room only and check back in on the morning your package starts to get new KTTW cards. HTH :).

Thank you both for the info! Glad to see it is often done. I will book as 2 separate reservations and cross my fingers that we do not have to change rooms. :)

You will need to ask to have your ressies linked together....that's how they, hopefully, will leave you in the same room.
