How do Upgrade Coupons Work??

Hi;
I'm looking at both Avis & National for my summer trip. I have upgrade coupons from Entertainment book, Delta, Alaska air. When I put in the codes from these other websites I get the discount I expect but it doesn't seem to change the level of rental I have selected. I have read the fine print. Made sure I select the right type of vehicle to qualify. And Nothing changes.

Am I doing something wrong? Am I misunderstanding how the coupon works? Is it only usable once I arrive in Orlando and go to the counter??

When you go to Nationals site select compact as the size car that you want. If you have the double up-grade coupon, when you get to the page that gives you the pricing you will notice that the picture and type of car have changed to a full size. Likewise, if you were to choose an intermediate size car when you get to the pricing page you will notice that the car and picture have changed to a standard size car.

Depends on the coupon.

With Hertz and Avis a lot of the coupons are subject to cars being available. So you book what you want and then give them the coupon at pick up and if they have a larger car you can get it...

I agree with CarolA. Most upgrade coupons are subject to availability. It's not that you can reserve the larger size when you make the reservation.

With Avis ( I reserved from them for our April trip) the value of coupons is not reflected in the online reservation quote. Coupon values (either $20 off, free gas, or upgrade) are only reflected at the counter.


Plus, if you are seeking an upgrade, when making your online reservation the car level you select will be the level you will pay -- the upgrade (subject to restrictions) will be based on the grade you select.
