How do they keep the Hogwarts Express from being mistreated or vandalized?

From everything I've seen, it looks like your group is put in a car and shut in with no method of CM supervision.

A lot of people are a-holes, there's no debate there - so how is this ride monitored, so that those a-holes don't mistreat or misuse the ride, to ensure the utmost care is taken with it? I.e. Trash, vandalization, breaking stuff, rough-housing, ...raging hormones, etc. etc.?

The ride only lasts about two minutes, so I don't know how much damage could possibly done in that time frame. You're also seated in groups of eight, so most groups are never by themselves. If some idiots decide to start writing on walls or something, I would imagine others in the same cabin would most likely notify the TMs once the ride is over.

I don't know how they monitor it, per se, but the ride itself is brief and you're usually in a car with strangers unless you're a group of 6 or more. Each car holds 8 adults, so we had 4 other people in these closed quarters. I would suspect if someone was defacing something, one of the strangers in our car (or us) would have said something. It would be pretty bold to do that in front of someone.

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't surveillance cameras in each of the cars. Also, most of the time they are running full cars with 8 people per cabin. So, peer pressure from the other passengers probably would also probably keep things to a minimum. And just think Trash, Vandalism, and snogging could just add to the realism of public transportation:love1:.

This topic reminded me of something. While I was there, I kept wondering how they managed to keep people from stealing keychains off of those huge keychain carts that usually only have one TM working them. It seemed like anyone could walk away with one, and no one would ever notice. Regular-clothed security, perhaps.

I figure people do, and they are priced to cover all the stolen keychains. Sigh.

There are cameras in the cabins. The first time I rode it, someone in our cabin took his phone out and a TM opened the door and told him to put it away.

Weird. Each time I've been on it, someone is taking pictures and even taking video. Flash photography isn't allowed (but normal pictures are), but video is not allowed. No one has come in when people brought out their cameras or phones on the rides I've been on.

Can you not take pictures with your phone while on the train?

Yes, but not with flash. Of course, the folks in our compartment disregarded the 'no flash' part of the announcement :mic: and blinded us twice during the ride :headache:

Technically anybody who is determined enough could do anything destructive anywhere. We just have to have faith that people will behave themselves, and they usually do.

We were waiting for the PBH boat when I told my nephews a story about a kid picking flowers at RPR during a past trip. I don't know if they were orchids or what, but this kid just kept picking them off and throwing them on the ground. I nicely asked him to stop and he did. My point in telling them the story was to show that they needed to be respectful of their surroundings.

So, while I'm telling them the story, younger nephew throws a gum wrapper into the water! I almost threw him in after it!

Also, the 4 of us were on the Simpsons ride with a man. I happened to bring my purse that first day, and I was afraid he might grab it and run out before I got off the ride, since you have to leave bags on the floor. Thinking about it, though, he would have to get all the way out of a theme park unnoticed. I suppose he could just take the money out and dump it, but I assume there are cameras around enough to be able to trace it before he got out. It's not like he could just jump in a car. It seems like they would be able to trace any vandals back to HE too. I know they would be able to do it in Vegas. Someone is always watching.
