How do the WDW resorts treat folks staying on points?

Any special/unspecial treatment? Any upgrades or such? I know it's bad point use to stay at say the Poly, but since I can't get my home resort, I'm thinking about it. Anyone have something to share?

the Polyn use to give DVC members upgrades (but only sometimes) - but I don't think the new rules allow it - you know if you want the lagoon view you have to paid the points to get it.

kept in mind that WDW sets these rules - DVC does not.

but yes I got a lovely lagoon view at the Polyn, got a lagoon view at the BC and YC. Got a MK tower room at the Cont. when we still could use WL got a lovely courtyard view - looking out over the swimming pool, lake, geyser - I probably loved that one best of all upgrades using points.

I stayed at AKL on points, and felt I was treated well. I don't think I was treated any better or worse than anyone else. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

They treat me like a second class citizen! Every time we check out they wont accept my money:smooth:

Jenifer, Keep in mind that if you use points at the Poly and have to reschedule that you can only use those points at non DVC options. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this since your Mom is sick. Your waitlist at BCV might come through as more of it is sold. If it doesn't I think you would enjoy BWV. I can understand wanting to stay at the Poly sometime. I have always wanted to try it too. :D Denise

Hi Denise! I read that last night about if I cancelled Poly ressies made with points. I'm still trying to learn it all.LOL I called my guide yesterday to see if he had any pull with getting us into BCV. He said he'd see what he could do....if not I guess I'll stick with BWV although for some reason, I'm just not too crazy about the place. I've never stayed there though. We'll see what happens.

Hey guide can get points released - so have patient - and yes the Polyn is worth staying at - but the points now are high!

We used points at AKL and were treated very well. We used a special deep discount opportunity at AKL and were treated very well. Even got an upgrade at check-in.

My experience has been that cast members try to treat everyone special. When they see we are a member they usually ask how we like the DVC, how long we have owned, and what properties we have been to. They also have told us that they appreciate our visiting their resort.

Okay, spill the beans. What sort of "special deep discount opportunity" did you have in a situation where you were also able to use points??

Well, I would rather stay at BWV and look out across the water and see the Yacht/Beach Club than the other way around. I have always thought that BW area was a bit garish. I have stayed there and I enjoyed my stay. I just think it is kind of tacky looking. Just my opinion.

I also don't think I would want to use my points to stay at one of the hotels. It is kind of hard to think of not staying at the hotels, especially if you have done it for years, but once you have a couple of trips at DVC under your belt, you may not want to stay at the hotels again.

That is so true for us. The monorail / castle view just can't make up for all the amenities of the DVC resorts. Whenever I think a night or two at one of the hotels would be nice, it doesn't take long before I also think:

no washer/dryer
no jacuzzi
no microwave, toaster, coffeemaker or frig
only 1 TV (if you live with a remote-hogging "can't make a commitment to one program at a time" spouse, you know what I mean, LOL)
everybody sleeping in one room
What???! Did you say just one room??!!!

And to top it all off, the above is MORE points!!!!!

All that said, someday I am going to stay at the AKL and drink African coffee in the early morning on my balcony overlooking one of the savannahs. At least, I think I am. :teeth: :p
