How Do The Refillable Mugs Work At WDW (Not A Debate)

We have never stayed on the Disney property and I cannot say I have seen the refillable mugs used before. How does that work? You buy your mug at the food court and.....then what? Is there a dispenser machine around, you take it back to a counter to refill, or what? I was following a thread to see if I could ask about this when the thread was closed. Thanks!

At the Coronado Springs Resort, either the waiter will fill it for you when you're dining or there is a beverage area where you can do it yourself.

There is an active thread on the Disney Tips board about this very subject. There are quite a few replies to it.

The food courts at AS have the drinks near the tables and are great in my opinion. We normally don't drink that much soda but on vacation we do.

Most mug places are self serve, in fact I think the Coronado is the only exception because of the setup of the market. The soda machine is in an accessible place, just walk up and fill up. At the All Star hotels, it is outside the area where you pick up the food, near the condiments by the tables. At the Contemporary it is inside the area where you get your food.

This is actually what causes all the debate, because the machines are in accesible areas you just fill up and go. Hence people fill up all kinds of mugs and things, and they aren't checked by CM's -- it's just the honor system. I've been disney-ing for 7 years or so, and people aregued back then about the mugs! <sigh>

They are usually by the checkout in the food court, believe me, you can't miss 'em!

At some resorts (and some locations) its more convienient than others.

We had our mugs when we stayed at the WL. Roaring Forks (where they had the refill station) was right down the nearest elevator and very convienient to our room. It was also very convienent to the pool. But it wouldn't have been convienient if we'd had been on the other end of the resort.

But when we stayed at BWV, you fill them up at the BW Bakery....that was quite a hike from our room. Not near the pool. Not convienent. (BW is also not self serve - fill them at the BW Bakery - which has a long line in the morning).

We had them at the Dolphin on our last stay and you refill them yourself at Tubbi's. This was very close to our room, so very convenient as well. Most mornings DH would fill the mug with Coke (you walk past the cashier when you leave, but I wouldn't say they checked very closely) and then we'd put the drink in a throw-away cup from our room. That way I could drink the Coke on the way to the park but not have to carry the mug around all day.
