How do the backpack's from Toys R Us hold up?

We normally buy Land's End and LLBean backpacks and we have a couple, but DD really wanted an iCarly backpack. I decided to give in and get her one, since she'll be in first grade and there's not many years she can get away with having character backpacks like that.

Do they hold up o.k? I noticed they are not that big in width, so I was thinking she can use her older bigger backpack for winter when she needs to carry additional garb. I had to buy her iCarly funtainers anyway, so I just got one at the same time.

My boys have always gotten them at TRU because they always want a character bag. They have always lasted the school year for us. I never expect it to last past that for the price. I think we still though have a couple of old ones we use for the beach/pool or a sleep over.

My DD wanted a LPS backpack...and maybe it's just me, but it seems like it's huge. Last year, she wanted one of those cheap, clear backpacks from Walmart. I can't imagine (other than it's trimmed in pink?) why she wanted that backpack, but it survived a year of Kindergarten and could probably make it through another year or two. The LPS backpack from TRU seems sturdier and better made, so I can't imagine that it wouldn't hold up for a 1st grader.

I agree with the previous posters ... The Toys R Us bags usually will last through the school year (Possibly a little longer or a little less, depending on the wear and tear the backpack goes through).

My mother bought my DS (8) a Yankees backpack from CVS last September. The backpack was flimsy but it really only held his homework folder and a library book or two .. It only lasted until January.

Thank you! We definately want it to last at least a school year, because I'm sure she'll want something different next year. Good to hear you can use them for other uses too.

I didn't think it was huge, but it may be for a smaller child. It's only 16" and her old Lands End one is 17" and the depth is impressive. This ToysRUs one has a 5+" depth and it doesn't seem like it'll carry much.

Thank you for your response! I'm hoping it holds up.

Thank you! Can you tell it's our first character bag? My oldest DD never wanted one, but my younger DD is a little more into that stuff.

She's going to the next school up that houses the first and second graders and she wants whole new stuff. She'll eat lunch this year at school, so she wanted iCarly lunch accessories and a backpack to match. She was so excited...how could I say no.

It's amazing how a few things in their favorite characters can make their faces light up.

I got my backpacks from Kohls. A Thomas backpack survived 4 years of preschool - 2 years with each kid and still in good shape, but then again, it only needed to carry lunch, change of clothes and art projects home. Another Star Wars backpack my oldest used for Kindy & 1st grade. Again, very light use for homework folder, library books and carrying projects home. This one is seeing it's last use for day camp. When the kids start bringing home textbooks then it's time for a more robust backpack. For now, indulge them in the cheapy character ones.

I wonder if it is considered a "preschool" bag? I got DS bookbag last year at the Disney Outlet for Kindergarten but his school issued pocket folder would not fit in it. The bag was not deep enough. I always had to fold the corners down to zip the bag. I recently inquired about it at a Disney Store and that's when a CM told me that I probably purchased a preschool bag. :confused3 I had no idea there was such a thing. This year I will test his bag out before removing the tags and sending it to school.

I think the preschool bags are around 14" in height, but the depth from front to back looks the same as the ToysRUs backpacks. That's the only part that worries me a bit. She might only be able to use it for fall and spring. I did measure the Friday folders my DD8 took last year and it looks like it'll fit in this one, but with the lunch bag it'll be a tight fit. I was thinking that she could carry the lunch bag separately, but she's known to leave things that are loose. I'm sure we'll make it work somehow.

Four years is very good for a character backpack. I'm learning that 3rd grade is the cutoff for those. I agree that now is the time for the smaller, fun backpacks. They have plenty of time for the plain, hefty ones.

Our Disney Store and Toys R Us backpacks would last for the school year, but the material around the zipper would tattered earlier than that. I finally bought Land's End backpacks for my boys last year and the bags still look brand new.

If your daughter has her heart set on it, it should work fine for the school year.

Both of my kids backpacks came from there last year and they were used every day! They are still in excellent condition and will be used again to start school this year. I usually buy them when they run the lunchbox for free.
