How do resorts know if you parked overnight?

I’m renting a car to attend a wedding in downtown Orlando in the middle of our trip. I plan to park the car at our resort for a few hours while we get ready. We will return the car immediately after the wedding and get a ride back to our resort. I have never rented a car before on my WDW trips so I don’t know how parking works. Do you scan in and out? I want to avoid being charged the overnight parking fee since we will only be parked 2-3 hours.

You stop at the Front Desk and advise/confirm that you did not park a car there overnight.

When you bring the car mid-stay, you can tell the gate guard you are only there for a few hours. They’ll probably scan your magic band to confirm you are a guest and away you go.

Certainly inspect your room charges via the My Disney Experience app and again at check-out. You should do that anyway for any mistaken charges. If you see parking, explain it and they should remove it.
