How do rebook with a low DING fare?

I have booked round trip fare for Buffalo to Orlando in late June.

If I get a DING, how do I rebook and get the SW credit?

In the past, I've pulled up the flight I wanted, got ready to pay, then call SW to tell them what I want to do. They'll cancel your previous reservation and they'll issue you a number which you plug in when you pull up the screen where you enter your name and address. The credit will be applied to your ticket total.

You don't have to call up SW to cancel a reservation. You can do that yourself on the Travel Tools section. Also the number to plug in on the Travel Funds portions has always been my old confirmation number/code.

Since it is common for me, not to have a DING available for a roundtrip flight, only a one-way portion of my flight. I now usually book my original flights as one ways.

Only because, SW can not cancel a portion of your trip They can only cancel the whole trip, so they suggested to me to only book one ways. But if your DING fare is only available for your return trip. Keep the original roundtrip fare and buy the DING returning fare. You can cancel the return trip of the original fare to get that credit when the outgoing flight is completed.

Booking 1 way on SW as suggested above is an excellent suggestion. When I go to rebook on DING fares I just start the booking via the DING link, when I get to the payment page I minimize the screen, re-enter the SW web site, go to the travel center and cancel the first set of flights, then as soon as I have the confirmation number for the cancellation (which is the same as the confirmation # was), I go back to my first screen and complete the DING fare booking by clicking on the "Apply Ticketless Travel Funds" tab.

I do it this way because you make sure your seats are available at the DING fare before you cancel your old reservation and by minimzing the DING booking it holds the seats for you while you cancel the other flight. I learned this the hard way...once cancelled our flights and when I went to book the DING fare not enough seats were available on the flight we wanted and we got stuck.

Their computers update fast enough to recognize that you just cancelled original flight and now have Ticketless Travel Funds? Wow that's nice. So there is no need to call it is that simple?

Yep...it really is that simple. You do not need to call and the ticketless travel funds are available to use by the time you can get the other screen back up and type in the number!!

I love SW, because I rebook almost all of our leisure travel for DING fares and it is SO easy!!
