How do I use Points in Holding for this trip?

We purchased our first contract, resale, in October. It is an AUG UY with 117 2024 points. Of these, 28 are in holding. I understand that I can only book 60 days out with these points. I'm trying to book a trip in late April. Because I can't use the points in holding, I would have to borrow from my 2025 UY to complete the booking. However, if I borrow, once the points in holding become available to use for this trip, the borrowed points won't go back to their original UY, is that right?

As a work around, can I use the points in holding to book a couple single days that are within the 60 day window right now and then modify those reservations to the dates I need for my late April trip?

Borrowed and holding points are final.
Why points go into hold is away to limit members from booking a trip then canceling last minute. Other members that wanted those days have already finalized their trip .

Booking dates within 60 days from now, if you don't need them, isn't going to help because it doesn't change the holding point status.

The only potential benefit would be that you might be able to keep modifiying as a way to "walk" those dates forward, but given that anyone can jump in and book the dates you want ahead of 60 days, it may not really help.

Definitely do not borrow points you willl not need because those will be stuck when you use the holding points.

Is it possible to use points in holding in Interval International? I was looking into this but couldn’t find an answer. Theoretically planning for a potential trip past my banking deadline in 2026.

Hmm I wonder if there is a chance that you could book the reservation, borrowing some 2025 UY points, but then modify it within the 60 days to use those points in holding. It would not let you bank the 2025 points so you’d have to use them, but maybe you’d still have time to bank what would then be leftover 2024 points? Since your banking window closes at the end of April. Someone else might know better than me whether this would work.

Any switching of points needs to be done at least 31 days in advance or the OP will end up with more holding points. But, if the trip is end of April, and the 60 days opens in February, then it makes sense to just wait now another week or so to get them booked without the need to borrow points from 2025.

But, if the April trip is using some of the 2024 points already, then yes, they can borrow 2025, modify, and as long as it is more than 31 days out, it will use up the holding and the borrowed points and let them still bank the 2024 points since the deadline for that is the end of March.

Okay, so it finally clicked for me and I was able to work this out.

First, I booked my entire stay using my non-holding points.

Then, once the first night was within 60 day mark, I made a new, duplicate, 1 night reservation using 18 points in holding for the first night of my stay.

Then, I modified my original regular point reservation to drop the first night since I now had it with the holding points.

This freed up my regular points which let me repeat this process to use up the last 10 of my holding points, combined with regular points for the second night of our stay. (I did not have enough regular points to book both nights at the same time.)

Modified the original non-holding reservation one more time to drop its overlapping, duplicate date.

Finally, I asked Member Services to merge the two reservations so now I have one stay.

And now I'll bank my left over regular points and hope I never cause points to go into holding.
