How do I switch resorts online?

Here's my dilemma. I was booked in a deluxe studio at Saratoga Springs but requested to be put on the waitlist for old key west or villas at wilderness Lodge.my first choice would be to stay at vwl but since the trip is in a couple of weeks I thought I'd have a better chance getting a room at Old key west before getting vwl. well the waitlist came through for Old key west today but when I checked to see if vwl was was available, to my surprise it is right now! how do I go about switching over to the villas at WL without speaking to MS? I would like to book it tonight if possible. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

If you don't have enough points to cover two reservations without borrowing, you have to cancel the one room and then book the new room.

I have never played around with points before. So if I cancel I can use those same points to book the new ressie without having to borrow points, correct?

If you cancel a reservation using the Vacation Center on the member website, the points are returned to your account and put back into the UY in which the reservation was to take place. The points from the cancelled reservation are immediately available in your account to use for another reservation.

I hope it worked out for you! I would like to try this sometime but am too chicken that if it disappears I might get stuck without any ressie. So any time I have changed I always do it by calling.

Recent upgrades may have changed things but other than managers and team line CM's, MS can't hold inventory as they make the switch either.

Eeks! I plan to call in May for my December trip. But I am not counting on a change and will be satisfied with my original reservation too.:goodvibes

I don't think I read this correctly in the past then. I read several posts talking about if you are switching to do it by calling so you don’t run the risk of losing a ressie in between cancelling old and booking new (which I’m hoping to do tomorrow AM so I’m getting nervous). So should I go online at 7 eastern and try to do it myself? Or wait until 8 and have them do it? FWIW – I looked today and there are plenty of rooms at various resorts I would be willing to try (for the 7 days starting 1 day before the 8 days I want to book). We just want to try somewhere new this trip so my heart isn’t set on one resort/one view or anything like that. And my home resort is SSR – so my guess is if for some weird reason EVERYTHING else is gone – I would be able to get it back? Should I just cancel now to save me one step in the morning? Why am I so stressed – and this is before I worry about my first trip on FP+…

MS doesn't advertise the limitation, they have a didn't ask, don't tell policy. We found out the hard way a year ago when MS lost our reservation during a swap. They apologized and said that there was nothing that they could do. I contacted Member Satisfaction who told me about the limitation.

Later I had an MS CM tell me that she can hold inventory and after being pressed she confided that she is a team-line lead and that they have special access and privileges.

I would make sure that I ask before making the switch.

How did you make out? Were you able to get the new reservation?

I chickened out, hoped for some pixie dust, and waited until this morning to call member services to have them make the switch. Before I called, I went online to check to see that the studio was still available at Vwl. For some reason member services could see that the room was available but they had to call the hotel directly to be sure the room was available. It took about 5 minutes for that to be verified. I'm not sure why they had to make that call but I am happy to be able to stay at my home resort now!
