DS8 is turning DS9 over Thanksgiving week and it is hard enough to find anything he wants or needs here at home. What have you done about gifts, etc. while staying on site? Do you take things from home with you, get things there, or just wait until you get home? Any other ideas?

I would think that celebrating/getting gifts in the park would be enough, unless there's something specific you want to give him. I would get him a birthday pin in the parks and ask him in advance to pick a restaurant for dinner and you can make a reservation and order a cake. Let the day of his birthday be "his day", where he makes all of the decisions (what to do, where to eat, etc...) and gets to pick out a present for himself (within a reasonable price range).

We celebrated my DS 7th b-day at WDW. The trip was his present along w/ a suitcase w/ wheels (a big deal to my 6 yr. old at the time). We had a surprise dinner at Chef Mickey's and I ordered a birthday cake. We got him a birthday pin as soon as we arrived at WDW. I just kind of watched what he was looking at and wanted while we were there and then bought a couple of things and gave them to him at dinner (I just brought them in the bag fromt he store). I brought b-day cards from home. I hope you all have a wonderful b-day trip :)

We were in WDW over DD's b-day this summer.

We brought her gifts from home, so she's have them to open on her b-day.
We had a character breakfast & a character dinner that day.
We also took an Illuminations b-day cruise that evening, after dinner.
We had a b-day cake delivered to the boat.

She also wore a b-day button in MK that day since it was her actual b-day that day. The guy running the Indy Raceway attraction said, "No one should have to wait in line on her b-day"....and he brought us in a separate entrance & let us go to t he front of the line. How nice!!

the guys on wdwtoday.com always say if you can go the day before get the birthday button at townhall in MK. give your son the button the first thing in the morning and cast memebers all over the park will be giving him special treatment. as mentioned, going to the front of the line!

Thanks to all! We wanted Chef Mickey's but it was booked solid at 90 days out when we made trip plans.
