How do I get my lobster tail?

Going on the eastern cruise in January. I don't want to dress up for a variety of reasons (packing, I wear as suit 5 days a week for work, etc,...). I can also appreciate that people want to enjoy the atmosphere of the formal and semi formal dining experience so we will just eat at Topsiders for those nights. I understand, however, that Topsiders does not serve lobster tails. Anybody have any advice on how to stay casual and get lobster tails for the family?

Thanks,

By the way, not to start a dress code debate, when I asked DCL they told me to just show up at the formal and semi formal nights dressed casually.

On the Wonder I asked to have my dining rotation changed to Tritons the first night (as first night is casual everywhere) so as to not impact on everyone's ambiance. The CM insisted that we just show up dressed casually.

My point is that DCL gives mixed messages on what is appropriate dress for these nights.

I honestly think the only way to remedy this is to either show up for dinner dressed casually (which I don't really rec.--they didn't name it "Formal Night" for nothin'), or speak with the head server and ask him or her to have a plate fixed for you, which you would still have to pick up. Disney is amazingly accommodating, and it doesn't hurt to ask.
Good luck! Have a wonderful cruise--and don't forget to ask for the butter. Lobster is just a conduit for butter anyway!

Goodfaerie is right. If you need any special requests concerning diner, you should just ask your Head Server. I don't think they'll have any problem fixing your diner and holding it for you to pick up.

On our 10/11 Magic cruise DD11 and her friend decided to skip semi-formal night and go to their club for karaoke instead. Afterwards they regretted their decision and wished they had gone for lobster. I suggested they go find our server (it was still between dinner rotations) and ask if there was any left over. They found our assistant server and he told them that he was setting up for the second seating but he'd see if he could have some sent to the cabin. We headed to the show and on our return to the cabin found a server delivering a tray to the room. It was two complete lobster dinners for the girls.

I'd let your server know the night before and see if you could pick some up to go or have them sent to your room. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Just curious..... Is it Maine Lobster?? DH just asked and since we are from New England you can guess which one we prefer!
But any lobster is better than NO lobster....

Thanks

they are NOT Maine lobster, they are the smaller ones.

they brought me a whole bowlful on my birthday. YUM!!

DS was complaining of not feeling too well on Lobster night during the Eastern in Jan 2003 (no, it was not the Norwalk, just a 6 year old w/ a tummy ache from too much ice cream and chicken fingers and pizza...LOL)so I sent DW to dinner, we had a lovely family sharing our dinner table with us so she would not be alone, and I stayed in the staeroom. DW returns at the end of dinner with a tray filled with a huge lobster tail, a wonderful tenderloin filet, everything I would have ordered and more, given to her without having to ask once she explained my and DS's whereabouts. Now if only the story did not have to end, as it truthfully did, with DS waking up, feeling better, and eating my lobster tail and half my filet, too! What was I supposed to do, say "no" to a hungry 6 year old on the Disney Cruise? Must not be too angry, I'm taking him on another Eastern as an 8 year old with DW and myself in 15 months!

So DO ask your servers, in advance (thats the benefit to having them with you at dinner every night), if you need yours "to go" and I can't imagine in could be a problem. Our head server, Berte, was great.

I'm pretty sure Topsiders had lobster on that night, too. I'm pretty sure that was a night I went up and checked out their entrees and saw that they, too, had lobster.

On the eastern--the night w/ lobster(capt. Gala) is semi formal--not formal. Formal is I believe Sunday. Someone who went recently could confirm this hopefully............and again--it's suggested--I WOULD NOT look down on anyone for wearing casual attire.....but that's me. Also--I didn't feel like people on my last 2 cruises were all that concerned w/ people dressed less formal than them.......if they were--that's their own problem since there are a lot more important things to get all worked up about in today's world. So I say--if DCL said what they said--I feel it's because that's how they feel--get dressed up if you want--don't if you don't want to. Probably get flamed for my opinion but I say wear what you feel comfy in and eat lobster in the restaurant you're supposed to be in that night..........if that's what you want.

I guess part of it would be what would you be comfortable wearing on Formal or Semi-Formal night. I understand you not wanting to pack or wear a suit (even though I love seeing men dressed up and it is great for a formal family picture). Would you be comfortable in a button down shirt and tie (that won't take up too much room). I think you wouldn't look out of place at all and could enjoy the lobster in the dining room.

Just my 2 cents.

I think that Doctor P is right. Although I have not been to eat at Topsiders for dinner, I have heard from people that have eaten there for dinner, that they have several of the same selections as those in the main restaurants.

We were very disappointed the last time we had the lobster....very dry and tough....

Babadee, a nice pair of khakis or dress slacks, a smooth looking button-down club shirt or snazzy polo. Anything like that would be fine.
Don't let any of the nearly unDisneylike dress code debates, especially mine :teeth: , dissuade you from enjoying your lobster tail.

And all of you saw I posted to this and thought 'Here we go again", didn't ya!
