After reading up on this experience I found out only 4 kids are picked to "pet" the triceratopss, is this true? Anything I can do to "help" them be picked? (ie sit in a certain area, go at a certain time?)

Couple of Hints:

First, Triceratops Encounter is no longer a "timed" experience. In other words, once you enter a Triceratops paddock, you and your party are welcome to stay as long as you like - the program is continuous. So if your child is not picked to pet the Triceratops, you are welcome to stick around until the next opportunity (about every 10 to 15 minutes).

Second, there is a height requirement to pet the Triceratops. I would recommend asking the greeter at the front of the attraction if your child is tall enough prior to entering the queue. I am not sure of the specific height needed (probably around 38 to 40 inches). The requirement is for the need for the child to reach over the paddock fence ON THEIR OWN to pet the Triceratops. For safety reasons, due to the incredible (and sometimes unexpected) movements of our Triceratops) parents may not hold their children up to pet the Triceratops.

Finally, you will want your children to be near the head of the Triceratops, right up along the fence - in order to be picked.

Hope this helps

We were there last month and all the kids could pet it. You have to be a certain height to reach it through the fence. You pet it at the fence near the exit so when you go in move to the farthest end. Only the young kids enjoy this, our kids 11 & 14 just rolled thier eyes.

Great hints CoasterFEV, we did just that in December so the kids could pet the dino. My 7 year old was allowed my 3 year old (42") was not tall enough. Will try again next time! It was cute.

My 4yo is only 37", she is going to melt down! she has had it with being "little" and watching her 6yo have "all the fun!" Thanks for the hints!!

I believe CoasterFEV is probably right about the "official" rules ... but when we were there recently there was a child whose parent held her up to pet the Triceratops ... but that may also be partly due to the fact it was a very light weekend and there were not many people there anyway.

Also remember that Topper is pretty BIG and can be intimidating! Our 5 year old is a huge dino nut.....learned all their names before she knew her address :) and she was like WHOA! So you may not have to worry bout your little one having a meltdown...she might be glued to the wall :)
