How disabilities impact us?

I only have one child she is 19 however with all of her disabilities she functions at a much lower level. THere are so many things that she can not do and probably will never be able to do. At her age she should be off to college and having the time of her life, it breaks my heart to know she will never be able to experience so many things other people her age do, but on the other hand she is still child like and has that innocence that I Love and we watch silly cartoons, laugh together and I truly appreciate what she can do!!!! We deal with everything that comes our way together with love. I get very sad at times and I cry I wish so much I could take all of her pain away but I can't. So remember keep your head up and that it is ok to cry whenever you want to!!!!

We too have had many times that we spent a lot of time fighting depression over the issues we've faced with our daughter and all of the financial difficulties that spread out from that.
We are very lucky in that my family help us a lot with our kids, especially our daughter. Without them over the years I don't really know how we could have made it.
However, my DH finally had to see our doctor about two years ago for depression. Not only was he depressed over the multiple surgeries, financial problems, and such, but he was getting very scared and paranoid over her seizures. Fortunately, the doctor has finally found a medicine that he doesn't have too many side effects from and boy does it make a world of difference!
That can be one of the hardest things to do with a child with health problems..taking care of your own self as well.
Good luck with your depression and try to seek some help as soon as possible. It sure can take a load off of your mind.
