How difficult is it to book a DLP hotel on points for mid July?

DH & I are planning to visit in mid July 2014. I called MS and they said we can only book 6 mos. before the date we arrive. That puts us in Feb. 2014. By then all the good airfares will be gone and if we do purchase the air for the dates we would like to go, we might not get those dates at one of the hotels. We could be flexible with the dates, but if we get our air, we're stuck.

We have points we need to use in 2014 so we really want to stay on points.

How worried should I be that we might not be able to get Newport or Sequoia for 7-10 nights mid July? I would book them cash, but MS said I couldn't transfer them to points. The availability is different. HELP!!

DLP is a very huge resort and it's very unlikely that it sell out for a date. Even in the summer (very busy season). So it's easy to find availability for all resorts even last minute.
There are also often flash last minute offers, with 50% discount!

However, this is for a cash stay, about points it can be different. The number of rooms that can be booked could be limited, I don't know it for sure.
Have you considered to rent your points and book a cash stay? The point cost for rooms in DLP is outrageous. When comparing point stay and cash stay, consider that cash packages include park tickets, while booking on point you have to purchase those. Also you can book from any country website, don't limit yourself to the USA version, european websites have often much better offers (30% off is very common).

I've rented my points with David and it was a very easy process, recommended.

Thanks for the suggestion. Really didn't want to get involved with renting, though. Yes, not sure of the DVC inventory vs cash either.
