How did you tell your kids you were going to Disney?

I LOVE the balloons in the box idea!! :thumbsup2 Let us know how it works and where you got the balloons...are they Mickey head shaped?? I'd really like to try that. I think we've decided to splurge on a limo. :yay: I'll pick the kids up from school in my car and say we have to stop at home for something on the way to the dentist. There the limo will be waiting. I'll tell the kids we should check it out, and inside will be a box...hopefully with balloons and other goodies. I may wrap their carry on bags too and fill them with goodies.

Thanks for all the great ideas! Keep them coming!!:cool1:

We are going in October and this is the first time I have planned it for a year and haven't told my DD's 6 & 8. I have been buying things here and there and placing it in my closet. I plan on packing the night before and then waking them in the morning getting them dressed and telling them. We are taking a Limo to the airport and are on an early flight. I can't wait to see their expressions!

We surprised the kids for their Spring Break vacation. We planned a whole year without telling them! it was so hard....so many times I almost slipped:rotfl2: I packed their suitcases and carry on bags and hid them in the attick. The morning of our trip they thought they were going to school so I woke them up at the usual time, they ate breakfast and went to get dressed for school (they wear uniforms) and I told them they didn't have to wear their uniforms today! That they could wear whatever they wanted! and they looked at me like I was crazy!:) but they did it no other questions. Then we acted like we were going to get in the car and go to school and then the limo pulled into the driveway and we said surprise! NO Schoola nd we are going to Disney!!!! They were so surprised and excited! It was a lot of fun but hard to keep the secret! I was so glad to finally tell them:)

We asked DD4 where she wants to go.

She, of course, said "Disney" (as she had done many times before).

My wife and I looked at each other, pulled our shoulders and said "OK".

LOL, the look on her face was priceless.

Last year we wanted to surprise the kids, so I came up with plan. We had to get up at 3 am to go to the airport, so I used this plan right before the kids went to bed. I told the kids I had been noticing a mouse around the house lately and could they please help me set up a trap. Not a "real" trap mind you, but one of those shoe box propped up with a stick and cheese underneath for bait. I explained to the kids that if the box dropped then that would mean we've caught our mouse.

When the kids were fast asleep, I removed the cheese and put a Disney World Book with Mickey's photo on the front under the shoebox. When it was time to wake the kids for the airport, (car already packed and ready to go) I woke the kids and told them to come out quickly, our trap had worked. They jumped out of bed and ran over to the "trap". When they lifted it I explained to them that the mouse must have been Mickey and he was waiting at Disney World for us to come and find him, so we had better go.

Thank you for sharing all of your stories! I love reading how everyone does the surprise.

I am taking DD (12) on a return trip in October. We went last year as a special mom & me trip while DH took DS on a trip. She has no idea I am taking her back.

My plan for now is to pick her up from school and give her a tshirt with a DISign on it that says she is going back and tell her she needs to put it on. I don't think the nice ladies in the school office will appreciate her screams, so I think I have to give it to her in the parking lot. I considered telling her I had a surprise for her and would pick her up from school....but someone pointed out that she may not be able to focus on school for part of the day if I did that.

My biggest issue is how to ensure I have her good sneakers for the trip, since she wears them for PE. I know I can figure it out once she starts school, but for now it's bothering me not having that figured out.

It has been so hard to keep this secret! She knows we are planning to go back in June, but I'm not "Officially" planning for it yet, so I have to watch everything I say and what she sees on the computer.

I am attempting to surprise my 8 & 4 year old with a Christmas trip this year. I love hearing everyone's stories!!! I've had the mickey balloons in mind since Disney started the What will you Celebrate theme. I'm thinking that we will check the kids out of school because there is a surprise waiting at home. When we get home, I want a big present for them to open. In the box, Mickey balloons attached to a note saying that we are leaving for Disney World and of course little trip presents in the box too. I have NO idea how I will plan & pack without DD8 knowing. She's very nosey, I mean observant.;)
