How did you tell your kids they were going to Disneyland?

My little boy is 5 and althugh we go in just over 4 weeks and have had the trip booked for about 8 months, we've still not told him about it...

I'm looking for some inspiration on how to tell him that we're going and (hopefully) get a you-tube worthy reaction (not to actually put on you tube, but a reacton that I'll remember forever!)

Was anyone here really creative in how they told the kids? And what were the reactions you got?

Thanks :)

Not so long ago I asked the same question. I decided not to tell the kids until the day we leave and surprise them with goody bag as a gift from Mickey on the way to the airport. Not much, but I think they'll be excited

i have seen some great ideas on here like putting a balloon in a box or writing an invitation from mickey.

my dd loves planning our holidays so i have always told her straight away. she is my little partner in crime. i did surprise her one year on the morning we were leaving. we were all packed and ready to go so i went upstairs with the camera and gently woke her and asked her what she wanted to do today. she said she wanted to go back to sleep. so i said what about if we go to disneyland and she just sat there looking at me rubbing her eyes. it took a minute or two to sink in and she asked me to repeat what i said and once she was awake she was bouncing all over the place thankfully lol

you can see it at the start of this video

There are lots of great ideas for springing the Disney surprise on youtube! We booked last June and are going in march and we haven't told the kids yet either.. I'm not entirely convinced that they haven't worked it out though. We are telling them on the day we go, we were planning on springing the surprise at the airport but I want to see their reaction and share the excitement on our way there.. I'm sure we'll think of something!

Well we were there 2 weeks ago an didn't tell the kids until the morning we left
Unfortunately the reaction we got at 630 am was a little underwhelming !
Ds who is 10 didn't believe me for a good five mins and when he realised I wasn't joking started panicking about what he was missing at school!
Dd who is 4 was just half asleep and took a while to sink in...
Did know it could go either way but had hoped for a more excited initial reaction. Still glad that kept it as surprise as thy would have driven me bonkers!

Good luck!

For my daughter half the fun is looking at the website and researching what is there and what she can do. I would be sad to take that away from her!

Also I think she would be cranky at me. We are not a very "secretive" family though. We plan and dream together!

The first time we went they knew as soon as we'd booked :goodvibes
This time they don't know, I'm thinking of just collecting them from school at home time and saying "hey, how about we go watch the planes landing & take off..... How about we watch from inside the airport"? then........ How about we watch from on a plane?" :rotfl:

The way I see it, if I tell them this close then their teachers lives will be made a misery trying to get them to sit still till then :rotfl2:. Anyway dd1 has an intellectual disability and doesn't understand time, if I tell her we're going she'll think it's NOW!

It's all great. Whether they know beforehand or it's a surprise :goodvibe

Thanks for your replies, I'm so torn over whether to keep it a suprise and tell him when we get to the airport or tell him now and let him have an excited build up to going.

The plus side to keeping it a suprise is that I won't have him asking "How many more sleeps til we go?" every ten minutes for the next four weeks...
