How did you feel being out of Canada last week?

We have a trip planned for Dec. My biggest fear is being unable to get home if something major happens again while we are at WDW.

How did you feel last Tuesday knowing you couldn't get home to loved ones while all this was going on?

Is it not as bad a feeling as I dread it would be?

Our only choice is to fly from here so we would be dependent on the airlines to get home.

I need reassurance that taking this trip is still the right thing to do.

You are not going to like my answer but I'm going to tell you the truth. It was horrible being stuck in Orlando last week. We were at the airport when they closed it on Tuesday. There was such a feeling of helplessness something I have neverflet before. Without your own car you are truly at the mercy of the airlines. We were turned away at the airport 3 times last week, this is with confirmed reservations and checking the automated system before leaving the hotel. We ended up paying expenses for a full four extra days. It was not a situation I would be willing to put myself or my family in ever again. If you do decide to go, please get travel insurance, you truly never know what might happen. Trust me I learned the lesson the hard way. Goodluck to you, it is a hard decision to make. We were considering buying into the DVC but after the events of last week we have decided against it.

Allison, Thanks for your response and honesty.

I know I'd feel exactly as you did. We do have cancellation insurance but it doen't seem to cover activities such as we saw last week.

I'm really at the point that I would rather stay home and feel safer. It's not that I'm afraid to travel - it's the helplessness of being stranded outside of Canada.

How did others feel being away last week?

Hi, I was not stuck anywhere last week, but we are supposed to go to wdw in October and I am thinking that I might reschedule, to a time further down the road as I do not want to put my family in any compromising situation being from Canada. My hubby still wants to go, as we are driving but I am not sure what to do yet. I want to feel comfortable while on vacation, with no worries, that is the whole idea of a vacation.

Debbie.

I would think if you are driving the worst that could happen is that you have a long wait at the border. We are going on our honeymoon in October and there is no way I would cancel it. You cannot stop living your life worried about what could happen. We are flying out the 10th.

We were on our last day of the DCL cruise. What was supposed to be a beautiful day at the beach, turned out to a very depressing afternoon in our stateroom watching the horrific acts of terrorism. However, DCL quickly put everyone's mind at ease. There was a very nice letter in our stateroom after dinner from Matt Ouimet (president of DCL), advising everyone of how DCL had taken care of everything. For people who were scheduled to go home Wednesday, they had taken care of reservations at 3 of their resort hotels (Yacht, Beach and Animal Kingdom). We were already booked for our an extra 2 days at AKL, so we were not included in this arrangement. However, DCL gave out Ultimate Park Hopper Passes to all their guests that were stranded. They were good from the Wed-Sun of that week. We were very worried at 1st about what would happen to us after our 2 days, however our worries were soon put to ease by Disney as they confirmed that they would be paying for our extra days. Not only did they look after their stranded guests by providing free accomadations, but they also gave us free long distance calls. Also, if things weren't bad enough, we had the threat of hurricane Gabrielle on the Friday. We had heavy winds and rain all afternoon. AKL brought out games & their characters for the entire afternoon enternaining young and old guests. I have pictures of my children playing Twister with Timon & King Louis, and Trouble with Chip & Dale. They asked us to call them from the airport to confirm if we got on our flight, as they would hold our room for us if we had to return. Disney did everything in their power to help restore some of the Magic that was lost September 11, 2001. Disney is the GREATEST! I don't think I would have felt as comfortable anywhere else in the US as I did at Disney.

we were on our honeymoon from Sept 4-15, so we were there when the tragedy hapenend...

I have to be honest and say it didn't feel good to not be home...we still had a great time...but at the minute late on the 15th our flight decided to go....being stuck would have not been fun. We were really honestly too far to drive home, I mean we coudl have done it, but it woudl have taken us 3 days and I woudl have rather waited 3 days at WDW to fly home...Disney was great and would have let us stay for 50% if we would have been stuck.....

But it felt good to get home...I'll be honest....

It's not that the US is a bad country to be stuck in, that's nto what I mean, but we aren't citizens and if they closed the borders it woudl have been very scary for us.

I know exactly what you mean. This was the year that dh and myself were to go away on trip without the kids... we alternate each year... we all go on a family trip, then the next year dh and I go away and the kids go to the grandparents.

There is NO WAY I would go more than a couple hours' drive from my kids right now!!! Sad to say, but the "what ifs" are just too real now. Now, I am thinking about all of us possibly going somewhere but I can't really decide. I think I'd also like to bring along the grandparents if we do that. I just couldn't stand it if something happened and we couldn't get back for some reason.

Good luck with your decision. Fortunately, I didn't yet have anything booked for us so I didn't have to think about cancelling.

Hi, I can see how everyone feels also. We are supposed to go in mid October, and now I hear on CNN yesterday that governor Ashcroft says that the terrorism is not over yet that there could be something else happen especially if the U.S. starts the attacks.

I really want to go, I can't decide what to do. This terrorism threat that I heard especially with chemical or biological weapons really scares me. Don't know what to do.

Deb.
